My dog has eaten a chocolate croissant!!!!?

My dog is about 8 months old, a boxer male. He climbed up onto the kitchen counter and ate a full chocolate croissant. I don't know what to do because I know that chocolate is harmful to dogs, Should I take him to the vets, or just wait for him to poo? I'm worrying.

The lethal dose of theobromine (the chemical in chocolate which is harmful to dogs, because they can't digest it like we can) is reasonably high, so your dog should be fine. It becomes serious when they eat about 1 oz of milk chocolate for every pound they weigh (so if your dog weighs 20 pounds, then a pound of milk chocolate will poison it).

Chocolate is harmful to dogs, but the chocolate you find in chocolate croissants isn't pure chocolate so he'd need to eat a lot of it to get sick. I had a Chihuahua that climbed onto the living room coffee table and ate 3 entire Hersey's kisses and was totally fine. As long as he doesn't start to act funny, you don't need to worry.

A lot of that depends on how heavy your dog is, how much chocolate he ate and how dark(pure) the chocolate was. He is probably fine but to be on the safe side at least call the vet and get a professional opinion.

He'll be fine, though he may get some diarrhea. It takes a LOT of chocolate to poison a dog that size.

If your dog eats from the table, it's not the dog, but pig. Or man :-)

Chocolate is not harmful to pigs and people.

don't worry about it, chocolate is bad for dogs but it doesn't matter if they have it sometimes. i have a dog and i give her chocolate sometimes, if she seems sick take her to the vet,if not you're fine! :)

It's okay. It was the first time he did it. I had a dog the had ALOT of chocolate and she lived to 15. :)

I am not say to feed it to him. I am saying he will be okay.

You will know within 10 mins if the dog is going to have a bad reaction to it.

If it's only a small amount im sure he/she will be fine.

Source(s): If they eat enough depending on their size Dey can start to shut down in 4-5 hours and I believe chocolate damages their liver
