Do doctors get kick backs for suggesting certain medicines?
I started a new medicine only to learn it was $65 to fill. I asked my doctor if there was a generic for the same thing and sure enough there was. He did not seem pleased to make the change. I told him if I had to pay the large amount, I would not be able to afford it along with the other meds.
Do doctors get a kick back or is that just an urban myth.
I will now go drink a beer and wait for an answer.

Some do, but it is not ethical. However, there are those doctors who believe that generic drugs are not as effective as the brand names and would prefer to prescribe the brand name instead.

The prescription process has nothing to do with the doctor, other than the prescription recommendation itself. He shouldn't get anything for giving you a type of medication.

Not legally. Most doctors are unwilling to risk their careers and freedom to earn a few extra $.

Nope...but generics do *NOT* perform as well.
