Surprise surprise!!! The umpires have ruined yet another game!!?

Since no-one here is even bringing it up, i thought i might aswell. Did anybody see the decision made in the St Kilda vs Collingwood match, in the dying seconds last night? It was paid a free kick to Harry O'Brien, because of an apparent 'chop of the arms'. but upon closer inspection, i can't seem to see it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE2pbD0dghY&feature...

Can you see it?

Update:

Daniel S, nowhere in here am i ripping into Collingwood. and yes, if this were in the Richmond vs Brisbane match, and it were in the dying seconds, with 6 points the difference, i definitely would've still posted this question. So you need to calm down, i'm upset with the umpires, not the Collingwood footy club. you idiot.

Update 2:

and Daniel S, 1 decision can change a match. if that decision wasn't made, St Kilda would've gotten a goal, and the match would've ended in a draw. so that 1 decision changed the match completely.

you idiot.

I don't see it. I can't understand what was going through the umpires head. Couldn't just let the game go on? Decisions like that ruin a whole game and this one decision has become the talking point of what was a great game. Saints supporter so naturally I want to kill that umpire, they had it in for Steven Milne the whole match, O Brien is my most hated player in the league, hes a pest and frustrrates and starts Milne and then gets the free kick when Milne retaliates - and the collingwood cheersquad influence the umpire too.

Even worse is the coach Buckley who was asked what he thought of the decision. He responded "it was a great mark." is he on something? I hope Collingwood get absolutely smashed tonight has proven why they are my most hated team in the comp I CANNOT WAIT for an Adelaide west coast Geelong hawthorn to send them and their dirty supporters home

Source(s): As to the question again - collingwood supporters will find a way to twist that into a free but that is one of the softest incorrect decisions you'll see, im not even that frustrated because whether we drew or not makes no difference at all since our percentage is good and no other teams have drawn, so in the context of our finals chances we gave it up when we were 6 points down, but yesterday the rioli decision not given which helped the game go on into tonight a decision which was given which ruined the whole game is disgraceful.

If that was a free kick then we may as well call the game bloody netball and be done with it, people saying there was minimal contact, big deal, last i checked it was a still a contact game, there is no way that should of been paid a free kick to Harry.

In fact I heard on ten sport that the AFL has admitted it was a mistake, well that's just good and dandy for St Kilda fans ad the club, that one ridiculous decision could cost them a spot in the 8. The umpire should be banned for the rest of the year, I'm fair dinkum too!

Funny - I went about 20 seconds away from putting a last minute bet on a draw in that game. Looks like St Kilda were 20 seconds away from getting it.

I don't know - it's 50:50 call (there was some contact and Milne was running with the flight but the contact was absolutely minimal and Milne had turned to look at the ball) but the tradition is the 50:50's have the whistle put away on them.

EDIT: I think you're probably right Chris. If that contact hadn't been made, there was a 90% chance that Harry O would have marked. I think it's a case of what we wanted to see happen but it didn't. Move on - next week.

Softest free kick you'll see which probably cost the Saints a draw. Were they robbed? Yes. Mind you Pies were better on the night and deserved the win. It shouldn't have come down to last minute call, but with their awful kicking their allowed Saints to stay in the game.

Moving on as we have seen these game decision calls made on regular basis.

The ones coming into my mind, Pendles play on against Cats which apparently cost Pies the game according to rabble from their supporters that went on and on..well there you go, you got your payback.Same for Saints against Cats in 2010 Preliminary, Mooney called for pushing in the back against Gwilt on which occasion Saints won the game after Ling's goal was disallowed. Well the luck didnt go their way this time.

I'm sure there will be many more and we will keep questioning the umpire's decision but not being able to do anything about it. Gotta move on.

Please don't ask questions that make no feel to answer. There are income caps in Basketball & in soccer. There isn't one in Baseball, and optimistically with the intention to alternate within the bargaining contract conferences in about 3-4 years. The schema for Coughlin and Belichick teaching styles are residues of their trainer, bill Parcells. If Parcells used to be your instructor, you've got a greater shot at going to the Superbowl than most other coaches in the NFL. It is just the way the cookie crumbles. I'm not in opposition to your dislike that it is continuously new york or at all times Boston, however waht about Detroit when the purple Wings, Pistions, & Tigers went to the championship a number of years again? Or when it was once all Cali with the Lakers, Anaheim Mighty ducks, The Angels v Giants (2002), & Oakland Raiders? Or who beat the Raiders in 2K2? Oh the Buccaneers, who additionally a number of miles down the avenue had the Marlins battle the quality combat in opposition to the Yankees in 2003. Oh, Dwayne Wade has a ring too. And my aspects characterize one, and not two states that you are clamoring about. I know you might be speaking about cities, but individuals have a tendency to go with anything near and costly ( NJ/the big apple connection.) My factor is, each of your questions are meaningless except you understand your game. You could have a factor with the baseball domination, which as an avid physical activities watcher and purple Sox fan, don't like seeing my group emerge as dominant just because of cash. But understand your recreation, or don't hassle to analyse it with a pointless question.

Was flicking back and forth from Lions - that game during the last quarter, and did see that moment. As has been said, from a completely unbiased point of view, and extremely technical, the free was there. HOWEVER - towards the end of games, the whistle tends to be put away and the players control the game more, correctly IMO. Nine times out of ten, in tht scenario, I reckon play would have gone on and the 2010 GF #1 would have been relived. However - technically the free kick existed, so I personaly don't plan to take to AFL House with flaming torches over the decision.

The Pies won with the help of the umpires. All night there were soft frees given to them and obvious ones not paid to the Saints. As a neutral spectator, I could not believe what I was watching, the Pies did not deserve to win. It happened on Friday with the umpires helping out Hawthorn, but Geelong was good enough to snatch the win. It's obvious, they want big clubs like Hawthorn and Collingwood to win these matches and finish in the top 4, therefore the $$$ will be coming in.

Its disgusting and disgraceful, for a WRONG decision to alter the game... Im speech less. Normally I don't let my St kilda bias side out, but anyone who watchs that footage and says that milne made contact with Harry O's arm are kidding themselves. He clearly hit around the lower armpit area. Absolutely gutted.

You want my completely unbiased subjective view...100% neutral?

I see a free kick...there was contact with Harry's arm (not chopping, that's what the commentator said) before Harry sets up to take the uncontested mark...

The contact was minimal...the decision was niggly...but the infringement was there.

EDIT: Agree Q Man, but the ump can't let the game turn on that, the infringement was there.

    no free there

There are afew over this week i saw that raised my eyebrows, the umpire in the middle at the derby was abit... strange at times.

if they are going to call it once i want it called each and every time, how often does a defender take a forwards arms out and not get pinged?
