Can you use a Jeep remote on another vehicle?

So I lost my remote for my Jeep. And instead of buying a new one, I found a couple at the Auto Wreckers. Would I be able to use those remotes? Of course I would have to get the access code changed on the remote to work with my vehicle. I am just wondering if it is possible to get them changed over and if so, where and how much? roughly

If the remotes you found are a Chrysler product and are of the same type remote that your Jeep had, then yes they will work. I have a 2000 Jeep XJ and I still have one of the origianl remotes and then I found a remote that had the Chrysler logo on it at a salvage yard and had it programmed thru my dealer and it still works fine. As long it is of the same type, it should work fine.

A dealer would be the safest place to get one programmed. Now you could take a chance and use some online diy sites. But beware, most of the online sites have been hacked into and people change the darn things for fun Some major auto parts stores sell the remotes and can program them for you, but not sure if they will, since yoiu didn't purchase their part.

If its the same type of remote that should have come with your jeep then it will work. You will however need to goto the dealer and have the remote coded to your vehicle.
