can i grow a chocolate mint plant in a house pot?

I bought a chocolate mint plant from a garden store and I want to put it in a larger pot and watch it grow on by 2nd floor balcony.

The plant's instruction tag calls for a bottomless pot. But I've since learned that bottomless pots must be installed in the ground, which I'm NOT going to do.

So, how can I grow this beautiful and good smelling herb on my balcony?

Mint is a great choice for a hanging basket. If you use a coconut husk basket line it with a plastic garbage before adding soil. Cut a bunch of slits in the bag for drainage. If you just plant in the liner you will be watering every day. You can also use a plastic hanging pot or a hanger that will accept a clay pot. Mint is very easy to grow and can be terribly invasive when planted in the ground.

You will have to determine the water needs based on your climate. You don't want it to completely dry out and you don't want it water logged either (root rot)

  • I have one and it is in a regular pot on my porch. The pot does have good drainage. I used regular Miracle Grow potting soil. It comes back every year. This is the 3rd season that I have had it.
