Questions on Worthless Check Charge?

I sent this once and don't see where it went.. so am sending again, because I really need to know what I am up against here..... several years ago-- about 2005-- I got into some financial trouble and took out several on line pay day loans. (Please save the lecturing on this, I am well aware how STUPID it was) when you are desperate, you do things you probably shouldn't. Anyway I took out several loans and got into a vicious circle as to trying to get them paid off. I was terrified as they threatened to have me arrested, to do bodily harm to me, my family etc. I finally called our local DA's office to see what I could do. They said to try to pay them back the best I could, but that legally there is no debtors jail etc. So as the "vultures" kept calling I made payment arrangements with them and paid them all off, or so I thought. Today, I was contacted by a woman who says that there is a law suit in her office and she is contacting me to try to get it worked out before it is sent to the local DA's office against me. She says it is for writing worthless checks... during all of my financial problems, there were several unathorized withdrawls that caused my account to go NSF... the bank closed the account. I paid everything back to the bank and thought I was cleared up-until this woman contacted me today. She never did say what office she was calling from and said I "should have" received a Affidavit in the mail, which I did not. She then proceeded to read me the charges that are pending against me and they are for a pay day loan group who says I still owe them $600.00. I kept all of my documents for several years and when I heard nothing from them, I threw them all out. So I no longer have any proof that they were paid. I have an appointment with my lawyer tomorrow, but am freaking out about this today. Does this sound legit? On one hand I am thinking it is another scam to try to get more money out of me and then on the other, if it is legit, I definately don't want to have any criminal charges against me. I have NEVER been in legal trouble..... 1 speeding ticket is it. Has anyone else dealt with this and if so, what should I be doing, other than what I have done?

Again, please do not preach on the devils of the pay day loan world... like I said I am well aware and learned that one the hard way!

Update:

More info-- I have since worked out the financial difficulties I had and am on steady ground again. My credit rating is over 750 ( I have worked VERY HARD to improve it) and I have no problem writing any checks-- If this were legit wouldn't there be something on my credit rating and/or something noted when I write a check?

Update 2:

***UPDATE***

Made a visit to my lawyer-she called the number of this group that was left and they hung up on her..twice! :) My lawyer called back a 3rd time and left a message for them to fax a copy of this Affidavit to her so that we could respond accordingly. That is how it was left, she highly doubts that there will be a return phone call of any kind or any Affidavit faxed to anyone!

Feeling sooo much better..... LESSON TO ANYONE THINKING OF PAYDAY LOANS AS YOUR QUICK ANSWER- DO NOT DO IT!!! FIND SOME OTHER MEANS!!!!

well we all make mistakes and it sounds like you have learned big time from this one. stop worrying, there is little that can actually happen except a ruling that you have to pay this money to them...thats really the worst that can happen and if you do not have it all at once you will be able to make payment arrangments. you cant go to jail for this or anything so please stop worrying, these things are never as bad as our immaginations can make them out to be.

As per your additional details, I really don't know, but since you are talking to your lawyer tomorrow, I am sure they can shed some light on it. in any case, you really have nothing to worry about.

I agree, you must explain what occurred to the location that you are making use of at. I might inform them that this is going to return up on the assess, and meanwhile, try to do what which you could to get it expunged. If there was no conviction, you must be in a position to get it off your document. Look to look who the credit document was once done by way of, and speak to that corporation and explain the quandary. If that doesn't work, contact an legal professional or authorized help. Excellent luck.

The company that is calling you is attempting to defraud you. They got your information from a list of people who had been in collections in the past, and is now trying to get your money by scaring you over the phone. What they are doing is illegal.

Report the incident to police and relevant government & civilian agencies:
