Anyone try to Self detox off pain meds?

I'm a vicodin user, but am trying to get off them completely. In the last month I have been able to wean myself off them by limiting what I take. I went down to only a quarter of a 10 mg vic a day, which is really good. Now I am completely out of them and trying to do this now without any safety nets. Anyone have any advice on how to make it through the workday when you start getting the blah feeling? Or get the achy feelings?

Well done for your achievements so far. Having stopped altogether all you can do is stay with and the cravings will gradually reduce.

Why not talk to a therapist/counselor about this? Or talk to your doctor at least? Drug addiction is pretty serious. I would think that the problem with this so called 'weaning' is that you'd be too tempted to go from taking none at all to taking what you consider to be a "small" dose. You'd rationalize it as making sense, to prevent yourself from going completely back on the "full" dose, or something along those lines, but really all you're doing is going back on it. Have you gotten rid of all the vicodin and other pain killers and alcohol in your home yet? If not, why hold on to any of it, it's just a temptation, it'd just be something you're holding onto because part of you want to start going back on it.

Talking with a therapist can help.
