Has anyone flown United airlines overseas? If so, how did you like them?

We are looking at tickets from Sydney to LAX and was wondering if they were a good airline to travel in. Also I was wondering how big the plane was and what meals they give you, etc.

Thanks!

United uses only 747's on that route, and United's 747's are very old planes with no personal in-flight entertainment and even look old inside. I've flown United to Asia 4-5 times and no longer consider United when choosing long haul flights. You will receive two meals on a flight from SYD to LAX, and the food is ediblle. The service is acceptable, but otherwise, there are much better airlines with better planes, better service and in-flight entertainment than United. If the price is much better than other airlines, that would be the only consideration that would lead me to choose United, but some good sleeping pills would be almost essential.

I've heard lots of people say United is the worst ailine in the world, but those are people who have not flown many airlines. There are lots worse, trust me. I fly United quite a lot all over the world, and I have taken the same flight you will take (several years ago though). Like other posters said, they're average. The quality of the service depends a lot on the cabin crew. The food is usually not very good, sorry to say. You will get a meal just after you leave, a meal just before you land, and a snack (sandwich, probably) in the middle. It's a 747-400, one of the largest airplanes. It should have in-seat entertainment by now, but they have not upgraded all their planes yet.

I've flown on United from San Francisco to London and I found the flight crew to be somewhat rude. That could just be that flight crew or maybe they had a bad day but it was much better on British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Airline food is airline food so unless you are in first class, don't expect too much. You will probably be on a 747-400 which is a very big plane. There are 10 seats across with two aisles.

Hi I have flown that route 5 times and it's pretty good united is quite reliable never been delayed more than an hour and never lost my bags and I have been on dozens of their planes. U get two meals the dont taste too bad but the portion is quite small. I don't know what type of aircraft it is but I can give a description the seating is 3-4-3 and the plane is quite big and has 4 engines. It's a good one to pick and one of the cheaper flights on that sector. I hope I was able to help :D

United is average in general but they are inferior if you compare them to Qantas or Virgin Australia on that route. United operates the 747-400 aircraft on that route and unless they have upgraded the airplane, there is no personal in-flight entertainment system. As for meals, you should get at least 2 meals. My friends who have flown United overseas said that food wasn't that good. I suggest you bring something to keep you occupied as well as some snacks.

i flew united from london to san francisco stopping in chicago, the flight was terrible, it was an 8 hour flight. All they had to entertain us was one chunky overhead tv for about half the passengers and it didn't even work, no apologies or anything. a flight attendant even tried to interrogate when i was on the way to the bathroom claiming they kids cause too much 'trouble' even though i was 14 and half asleep. The food smelt, look and tasted gross (period). on my return flight the flight was delayed 8 hours. Worst flight experience of my life and i usually make this trip every year. first and last time with united. WORST AIRLINE EVER.

I would avoid BA proper now as they seem to be having an terrible lot of strikes; Lufthansa in coach is beautiful grim, as is Iberia. I would go along with United if that you may afford the additional charge for economic system Plus; it offers you a lot more leg room which is particularly quality on a protracted flight, and good worth the money. 2d choice could be Air Canada as their inflight leisure techniques are fairly nice and their planes are mostly lovely easy and at ease. USAir's colossal Boeings are adequate, now not first-rate, be careful for his or her A330 as some seats have horrible leg room because of the inflight enjoyment method bins beneath, same with Continental and Delta.

I took it before and I absolutely hated it. It was a four hour ride.

I might be biased though since there was no entertainment. The meals weren't very good.
