Good Ideas on Kale Shakes?

I was listening to the Joe Rogan podcast, and he keeps talking about how wonderful the Kale shakes he drinks are. For many reasons (sleeping, energy, weight, etc.), I want to try Kale shakes. I don't care about taste, just about the effectiveness. Let me the ingredients that you use and what proportions to use.

Please actually give me YOUR recipes, not recipes you found online.

Yes, you do! Or at least you should (care about the taste).

Why would you want to drink something that tastes nasty, when you could make it taste delicious (for the same effectiveness)?

It does not have to taste bad to make it healthier, quite the opposite, really.

If you use tasteless fruits and don’t blanch your kale, that would not make it better.

Your taste buds are very important sensory organs and one way for your body to communicate with you.

You don’t want to mess them up by eating/drinking (on a regular basis) something that you don’t fully enjoy.

You need to experiment and listen to your taste buds (not ignore them) until you find the right kale shakes that are right for you.

Like I would never use honey (don’t ask…childhood trauma) or cinnamon as either one of those makes me want to puke.

If you like those…go ahead. You can also use a little maple syrup if you like your shake sweeter or use some fruit juice instead of water.

Be aware that you can easily add something that is missing (for flavor or sweetness) but you cannot take away sweetness if it’s too sweet or water if it’s too liquid (start with half a cup of liquid). People have different tastes and some like their shakes more liquid while other wants more texture (to feel like you’re eating something not just drinking it).

I don’t use ground flax seeds for drinks.

I would never add any dairies as I don’t mix fructose and lactose in the same meal/drink.

I blanch the kale prior using it (2 minutes in boiling water then dropped in ice water) to take away the bitterness of completely uncooked kale that do not go very well with fruits. You can also blanch/freeze the kale prior and use that when making you shake so you keep it in your freezer.

Use any fruits you like and that you have on hand. Frozen berries are great to use like crushed ice for a cold shake and they’re easy to store in your freezer and be more available, unlike bananas. Usually, you always use banana for texture and sweetness unless somebody ate the last one, darn.

Take notes on what you use and rate it, then move on and try something else as you want to get several recipes to take advantage of different nutrients and not have to eat the same thing every day.

Make only the quantity that is going to be consumed right away (you cannot store homemade juices and preserve the taste and the nutrients, even if you add a lemon juice).

Do not care about what your shake looks like at the end, more like what it tastes like.
