Why is the volume of a car stereo ...?

... inversely proportional to the musical taste of the car's owner.

I live next to a busy road, and I almost never hear anyone with any apparent taste in any kind of music whatsoever playing their stereos at high volume. And I'm not even all that picky about music - my own tastes cover a huge range of genres, and I don't automatically call any music crap just because I don't personally like it. But day in, day out there's a constant stream of loud, bland, generic pap streaming past my window at high volume. Why are people so keen to broadcast their utter lack of taste?

Because 80% of the public has horrible taste in music.

Yeah, I've noticed that as well.

I did have a bit of a laugh a while back when I bought a car that had been barried up with the usual ICE & subzzzzzz nonsense and whacked in a Wagner CD!

Tristan und Isolde beats MC f*ckwit vs DJ baseball hat every time!

Because THEY like their music, and thus assume that everyone else must like it too. Extra embarassing for the 50 something guys blasting out prog-rock or something from when their mid-life-crisis-car!
