Put in the form of a quadratic equation, 12x^2 - 3x = 0. Factor to get 3x(4x - 1) = 0. So either 3x = 0, in which case x = 0 (divide both sides by 3), or 4x - 1 = 0, in which case x = 1/4 (add 1 to both sides, then divide both sides by 4).

3x = 12x²
One obvious solution is x = 0.
To look for other solutions, assume x â 0, then divide both sides by 3x.
1 = 4x
x = 1/4

Another way to solve:
12x² - 3x + 0 = 0
By the quadratic formula,
x = [3 ± â(3² - 4·12·0)]/(2·12)
= [3 ± â(3²)]/24
= 1/8 ± 1/8
= 0, 1/4

12x² = 3x
12x² – 3x = 0
3x(4x – 1) = 0
3x = 0 or (4x – 1) = 0
x = 0 or x = 1/4
