Should I take this opportunity?

My mom just showed me a paper for some singing classes. They will teach techniques and voice strengthening every Monday from October through December, leading to a holiday concert where we sing 2 songs. It's only $20 for students, so I think it would be cool. The bad thing is, I won't know anyone there and there will be mentally ill people there. I do have some experience around mentally ill people, but I'm worried that I'll be really bad and that they'd make fun of me or something. My mom really wants me to do this because she said I have a pretty decent voice, and maybe the instructor has connections with people so maybe I could get discovered. I can't bring a friend, because none of my friends are really into music like I am. Should I still go and meet new friends? Should I just get over my fear of being judged?

Update:

PLUS, the class limit is 15.

You should go! :) if you love what you do, then do it. Every opportunity is like this. Be brave and don't let people's judging let you down. I look at it this way: people are going to judge anyway, whatever you do, but there are always those that appreciate what you do. You are there to learn anyways.

Concerning the mentally ill, I would be worried about your physical safety though. I wouldnt worry about any insults they say, mental or not.

God bless! I hope you do well. Put yourself out there and be recognized!

Oh, should I travel through the woods

Or should I not wishing I would

For above me lurks within the trees

No one could hear my deathly screams

The palest man, the blackest suit

    Bigger than the tallest brute

Six black arms will grab you up

Or, stalk you till you just give up

A top hat bares upon his head

Makes your soul fill up with dread

He takes you when you least expect

Boil you up, and eat your neck

He’ll leave your body not to eat

But staple your corpse on a tree

Fear the man, the slender man

For he can do, what no one can

    What are you leaving out?

"there will be mentally ill people there."

What the heck does that mean? What difference does it make? Why would they make fun of you?

    You're leaving something out.
