A recent study explores the link between free market thinking and rejection of factual science + correlation with the acceptance of other conspiracy theories:

Then again, the topic of "why right wing religious Americans" itself has been quite well explored too:

I also had such American baptist friends - upon discovering this - I discovered what a joke their churches are.

EDIT: religion in America is instrumental in filling a certain vacuum in lives. It can even take the role of nationalism. Christianity in the US is among a certain fringe of right-wingers associated with patriotism/americanism. The bible does not matter as much as the identification to the group.

Because it is a lie formulated by the left to create a carbon tax and tax credits, which is basically a new form of currency. The science isn't factual, it is theoretical. Global Warming is a theory, understand it is not fact.

All it is intended to do is weaken our country, and have business go overseas where they don't have to abide by any regulations. Making our country depend upon government for everything, ensuring that democrats stay in power when they create a welfare nation.

I don't think that it has got to do with religion that much; it has got more to do with the herd mentality. Individuals are more likely to be less concerned about global warming in general, if they are not directly affected by it. Whereas if you are off to the island nations, you might as well find folks in groups being terrified by it.

CO2 is rising causing the earth to be hotter, which is natural. Thousands of years ago the CO2 levels were actually higher, the earth then was hotter. CO2 has always fluctuated since the beginning of earth. Global Warming is a natural phenomenon, your friend is in fact very smart. You are the ignorant one.

Climate change denial is a set of organized attempts to downplay, deny or dismiss the scientific consensus on the extent of global warming, its significance, and its connection to human behavior, especially for commercial or ideological reasons

It doesn't have anything directly to do with religion. There is nothing in the Bible that contradicts global warming and actually it does say that human activities effect climate.

33 He turned rivers into a desert,

    flowing springs into thirsty ground,

34 and fruitful land into a salt waste,

because of the wickedness of those who lived there.

    (Psalm 107:33,34)

A lot of oil companies are based in the Bible Belt and a lot of preachers like having 10% of oil company profits in the offering bucket. I suspect that Madd Maxx may be one of them.

<When has Global Warming been proven?

    <Answer never.>

You get your information from journalists and politicians and not from peer reviewed science and claim that you know that global warming has not been proven. LOL.

You want proof. Global warming is happening

    http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2010/images/wa...

    And we are causing it

    http://planetsave.com/2010/08/18/humans-cause-glob...

    The ten warmest years in the instrumental record are 2010, 2005, 2009, 2007, 2002, 1998, 2006, 2003, 2004 and 2011.

If you are not convinced, actually investigate the information in the above links before shooting your mouth off about global warming not being proven.

It's based on CO2 levels. CO2 is a bi-product of many things. It's a normal part of the atmosphere. CO2 levels are considered normal when they are between 300ppm - 400ppm. Dangerous CO2 levels are between 30,000ppm - 100,000ppm. Federal standards for carbon dioxide limit of exposure is 5,000ppm.

    These are federal numbers.

Temperature measurements that were suppose support this idea were taited (CLIMATEGATE)

Ocean waters have only risen 3/4 of an inch globally since 2000. They told us in the late 1900s that it would rise a foot by 2030. Our own government told us that.

it's a failure of science education and communication. look at the average TV or newspapers- lots on sports, reality shows and events- very little on science. The books explains a lot. Meanwhile there are powerful industrial interests to deny the science, like the tobacco industry did for years.

all of the arguments put forth by deniers are proven wrong at skepticalscience . Even when confronted with evidence, the denier will cling to conspiracy theories. Many still think NASA faked the moon landings for example.

not much to do with religion except that faith interferes with reason- ask why some believe the earth is 6000 years old for example.

Why do you "believe" in global warming?

What does that mean to you?

Does it mean any warming or just the warming caused by humans?

The climate always changes. Very few skeptics deny this fact. It was generally colder when George Washington lived. It has warmed slightly since then. The warming in the last hundred years is generally a continuation of the earlier warming from the previous couple hundred years.

Is your belief in global warming based on your religion? Scientists don't believe. They leave that to politicians and religions.
