I've come to realise something...?

People say Adelaide have a soft draw, because they get to face GWS and Gold Coast twice each this season. I don't think they realise that North Melbourne also face GWS and Gold Coast twice this year, and have pretty much the same exact draw. So i'm wondering, why is it that Adelaide are copping it in the media for their 'soft draw', yet North Melbourne have not gotten 1 mention?

Update:

Oh, and let's not forget that last year North Melbourne finished 9th on the ladder, while Adelaide finished 14th.

How often does North Melbourne get in the media anyways?

The media has certain targets and North are currently not one of them. However 10 weeks ago North were being ravaged in the Melbourne media and there were calls for Brad Scott to be sacked.

Then up to 4 weeks ago Geelong came underfire when it was questioned if they would make the 4.

The draw is terribly confusing when the Suns and Giants are included. if you don't beat them by 20 goals, you are seen to be having a form loss.

For me, one of the great indicators of seasonal form, was when the Crows went to Simmonds, getting within 2 points of the Cats under very unfavorable conditions...then it started to rain. Footy fans see that.

But the media will focus elsewhere.

My 'Quandrinator' ladder works out the VALUE of the wins and losses that teams have had - weighting them according to the quality of their opposition.

On that ladder, Adelaide are a close second as below:

    Collingwood 249.8

    Adelaide 246.5

    Sydney 246.0

    Hawthorn 242.1

    Weagles 235.8

    Cats 235.2

North Melbourne moved last week from 13th place into 7th on 228 with their win against the Bombers, just ahead of Essendon and then Freo (and Carlton and St Kilda are behind Freo by the smallest of margins - all on 212 point something)

Then there's a BIG gap to the rest. I reckon that is a pretty fair summary of standings and shows how Sydney and Hawthorn really haven't been THAT impressive. North have ridden on lots of wins against bottom teams.

GWS and GCS equal bottom on 151.5

EDIT: I believe a lot of that anti-west sentiment is the invention of WA and SA politicians and newspapers - it suits them to create an "us and them" environment. It sells papers and distracts people from the real arguments. I haven't seen anything vaguely anti WA in eastern papers - ever! (I've been a Minister's adviser and I know too well how they work)

EDIT: Actually Cometti is a West Australian - you're welcome to have him back. I believe he started those suggestions against US You should be aware that the FIRST target of the ducking crap was GEELONG, not your team. It was specifically aimed at Joel Selwood by Cometti and then broadened to the other Selwoods - it is utter crap of course. The first target of the throwing crap was CARLTON. Get over yourself. Generally we don't even give you a second thought as the weeks go by.

Adelaide first on top 2, north not so much.

But look to be perfectly honest there is abit of anti-outside of victoria sentiment going around, trust me most of its come west coast's way this year. and if adelaide perform as well as promised they will likely be next in the firing line.

Only talking in terms of footy q, not everything else, everything else is far from that.

oh come on q, surely you don't really believe that it doesn't exist

Because north melbourne will be flat out getting within 10 goals of any top 8 team

I have but that's because their soft draw might keep my team out of the 8. In reality the crows might get first and north might get in the 8 because of the soft draw

no body cares about north melbourne but yes you are correct they do have an easy draw but they arent in the top 2 so thats why they aint getting any limelight!
