We are turning our portable dishwasher into a permanent one?
We will be buying a new dishwasher to install in the space where our portable (broken) one is now. The portable machine has a countertop attached to the top of it, which we can pry off and use as the countertop for the permanent one.
It is next to our oven, and there is no cabinet there. Do we have to build/buy a cabinet for it? How do we install it so it's safe, quiet, and re-sellable (home equity-wise)?
We want it to look nice, but we don't mind a good DIY project. We'll already have the plumbing set up, we just need to know about the cabinet...

All you need is a 24" opening for the dishwasher to be installed in the run, but you will need something to screw the attachment points to so it is held in place. This normally would be the bottom of the counter top, but if you don't have one there you are already at a disadvantage. Your portable was made to support itself when you open the door but the permanent one will tip out when you open the door unless it is secured. You are going to have to get a piece of wood run over the top to screw into secured side to side and then finish the exposed area on top to LOOK like it belongs in there. That will be your biggest problem, maybe a real wood butcher block.
