Anyone else received a strange check from "Metavante Corporation"?
I opened my mail today and was surprised to find a check for $288 made out to me from Metavante Corporation. It lists a PO Box in Sioux Falls, SD and is payable through a bank in Antigo, WI. The check looks extremely real and even has heat-sensitive ink on the back. Not only that, but it has my real bank account number listed on the top left corner! I've never heard of these people before, though, and I'm pretty sure it's a scam. I think I'm gonna take it to the backyard and burn it, but I was wondering if anyone else has received a check like this.
I tried calling the company, and each time they transferred me to the "appropriate department," I would get the hold music for a bit before the call would get dropped.
I put this post up a long time ago, and people are still responding, which means it's still happening. I did find out something though (2 yrs ago, so don't know why I'm just posting this now): If you look at the check REAL close, at an angle, and in the right light, you will see the word "VOID" printed several times. Even though you can barely see it, it's definitely there. The check is a complete fake. I urge you to take a close look, as well.

Perhaps it was sent to you on accident? Contact the company to find out what is going on.

Our county tax department received a check for $15.00 with the tag # of our old truck. It's not due until later in the year, so they sent it to us to check out. These people do not want to talk to you at all. Been on hold over thirty minutes and that's after calling the # on the check and listening to a recording that endlessly repeats. Frustrating.
By the way Michael Johnson, any legal document that is copied will show "void" if copied, that's how you know it is a real document and not a copy.

Metavante Corporation is a clearing house for the banking industries. I had a check deposited in my checking account in the amount of $500.00. I went to my bank and they could not explain. Further research showed I had sent a check for $500.00 to my niece on 3/9/15. She inadvertently forgot to cash the check and because 90 days had passed it was returned to my checking account by Metavante Corp on 6/10/15. They are a legitimate company returning money that has not been paid out.

I got a check for $88. My son's name is on the top left. He owed me $89.92 so I assume that is is some sort of bill pay thru his bank. I use Sun Trust and make payments the same way although there is a little bit more information and it is a check NOT a draft. I have not written a check in five years and the bank pays the postage and I don't buy checks. I paid my next door neighbor this way and he does the same thing.

They are legitimate, often a return of some kind or more typically an online payment.
The checks have security devices imprinted, one is heat sensitive, put your thumb on it and the emblem goes away. The "void" security device typically shows up when a copy machine attempts to duplicate the check, but if you hold it in the right light it shows up.
If someone owes you money, that may simply be the payment, or it could be a refund.
They won t tell you who the check is FROM.

I got a credit on my checking account from Metavante Corp and wondered where it came from, but I figured it out. I had sent out a check using online bill pay through my bank (Eastern Bank) and it was never received or cashed, so I asked to have it cancelled and the money returned to my account so that another check could be issued. That s what the credit is.

My two checks for $10 monthly are real. I opened an account 3 months ago that required a monthly withdrawal for $10 each for my wife and I. I am now receiving monthly checks from Metavante Corporation which they confirmed are owed to me. So, now I know these are legit checks (plus the first two months checks cleared).

The check is a scam. I recently had something for sale on Craig's List and I was contacted
by someone saying they would send me a check and to let them know when its deposited
so they could have their shipper pick up the product. My price on the ad was $625.00 and
they sent me a check for $2847.37 having the Metavante Corp address on it. It also has
the BMO Harris Bank in Naperville IL on it. Though some people will find it tempting to
deposit, its not a good idea. Always remember, it its too good to me true, it probably is.

Received a check this morning, 5/2/15. Name in upper left corner sounded familiar. Turned out to be legitimate, Metavante seems to be a holding corp. processing electronic payments for smaller companies. This check was from someone I do business with, so my check, at least, was legitimate and I will deposit. Hope this helps.

I also just received a check from the Matavante com. for $400 dollars. I own two homes and the check has both addresses on it. It also has a relative of mine's name on it. I looked closely, it does have the word "VOID" on it in three places. The VOID is super hard to find and read. Don't cash it! It appears to be another loan scam!
