Repost: Can conservatives explain to me how the Voter ID law is necessary?
I know this is a repost, but I feel that I didn't get an adequate answer that was supported by facts
Forget the fact that it discriminates against minorities, the elderly, and the poor. That it is completely biased towards Republican votes.
Explain to me simply, why a law is needed to prevent something that almost never happens. 10 cases in 12 years....
Even the RNC could only find about 300 cases in the last 12 years, which included things like mis-entered adresses which an ID couldnt fix.
So tell me, why is this a necessary law?
And don't even try to throw ACORN at me...
This is from Factcheck.org
■Neither ACORN nor its employees have been found guilty of, or even charged with, casting fraudulent votes. What a McCain-Palin Web ad calls "voter fraud" is actually voter registration fraud. Several ACORN canvassers have been found guilty of faking registration forms and others are being investigated. But the evidence that has surfaced so far shows they faked forms to get paid for work they didn’t do, not to stuff ballot boxes.

Additional Details
here are the statistics of people who do not carry ID, they also are people most likely to vote democratic
Blacks: 25%
Asians: 20%
Latinos: 19%
18-24 year olds: 18%
Seniors: 18%
Earning less than $35,000: 15%
Whites: 8%
/sigh
they don't have ID because most of the people in this group are too poor or have no need to own cars...
And you know if you're going to make ridiculous accusations like voter fraud is rampant, you have to actually be able to cite some source that says it is or at the very least have some statistics...
Do you not understand how facts work?

@joe, actually no, the burden of proof is on the person making the accusation, I am refuting the accusation that voter fraud is something that needs our attention.
The only burden of proof I need is to show you how it is affecting other people, which I did...
Your burden of proof is to show me some case, some instance where voter fraud has occured, oh but I forgot, it is never detected because we don't require ID, how convienient, it is never detected, but somehow you are so sure that it happens all the time.

if you can name a state that is allowing you to use a utility bill Id be glad to see it
they are requiring valid photo Id
Where in the world are you people getting the idea that the dead are having their votes stolen? First of all if the dead were voting, it would be voter registration fraud, which is not correctible by showing ID and secondly, the dead are removed from automatically from registration after they die...

It would appear that the answer to your question is "No", conservatives cannot explain why voter ID laws are necessary.

The voter ID laws are necessary to keep people from voting! If every eligible person were allowed to vote, Con-men would not be able to cheat and steal, which is what they really want to do.

"they don't have ID because most of the people in this group are too poor or have no need to own cars..."
^ There are other forms of ID besides driver licenses.
A lot of states are even accepting utility bills as an acceptable form of ID.

According to your "logic", because there are relatively few cases of tax evasion brought there are only a few people who cheat on their taxes. And based on the number of speeding tickets written on the highways there are only a few people who exceed the speed limit. Since no one can really function adequately in today's economy why should people NOT be encouraged to get a photo ID? Oh, I forgot. Keeping people poor and dependent (no car, no bank account, no credit cards, no airline travel, etc) is part of the democrat plan.

You are so full of it your eyes are brown. Prove to me that 25% of Blacks are walking around without the ability to produce identification. I'll bet my life there isn't one out of fifty people who don't have some form of identification. On the other hand there have been thousands of dead people who have voted in the last round of elections.
Factcheck.org sounds like an unbiased, impartial source of information but in fact they are a bunch of bomb-lobbing pinko leftists who have an agenda. Please don't quote that scum.
BTW, you have to show your ID to vote in that progressive country, MEXICO!
I personally think citizens should have to pass the test required of new citizens before they have the right to vote. That would blow about half the Democrats out of the water.

I have no idea how people get a job, car or home loan without a id.
I wonder people live without having a id. I cant even drive my car without a id.

it keeps people from lying when voting.
kind of like how you show an ID to buy beer, cigs, drive a car, go on welfare, buy a house, take out a student loan, collect SSI, and medicare (for the old),etc. etc.
oh and statistically the groups you mentioned are less likely to vote anyways, and maybe "your side" should look into why your base are too dumb, poor, or irresponsible to obtain such a treasure like an ID.

When a dead person shows his voter ID, then it'll be a bit more legit.
Open your eyes, man.

BS. You're not going to tell me they never leave their homes because they're a minority, elderly or poor because that's BS. There is WAY too much voter fraud going on and it has already been proven.
It's necessary to keep cheaters from skewing elections, period!

The burden of proof is on YOU to show why it is not necessary, when it is a basic and common sense procedure to protect against violation of the law.
