Should the US return the Royal Standard to Britain it has from the War of 1812 as a show of friendship?

I think they should, yes. They do still have it; it's in a naval archive or museum in Maryland.

And for the record, I think that this idea of returning things should apply to other things, such as the Elgin Marbles.

This question is of important historical importance.

US General Pike with 1500 regulars launched a pre emptive strike against an undefended Canadian City of York now I believe Toronto where hundreds of Canadian men, women and even children were literally butchered.

A hastily unequal force of British regulars of about 400 were over whelmed and that is how the blood stain of that standard came into American hands.

That is something Americans would like to have kept their secret to the grave.

But retribution came in the form of Sir Robert Ross who rolled up a far superior American force at the Battle of Bladensburg under the command of the top American general, General William Winder.

The Battle of Bladensburg is known in history as the Bladensburg Races because of the American forces being rolled over' so quickly prior to the White House being ransacked..

The date this Battle took place I have kept until last. August 24th,1814. (198 years tomorrow).

One of the British Infantry Regiment's has none other than President Madison's chamber pot as a trophy of that era amongst others along with an American Battle Standard.

How is it I have never seen anything about the Battle of Bladensburg in one of those Hollywood block busters?

I thought we already did. (I must be confusing that with some memory I have of Churchill and Roosevelt exchanging something of symbolic significance. What is that memory? -or does it have something to do with Bush doing something disrespectful with a bust of Churchill? Help me out with this. You jogged one of those irritating vague partial memory things and now you owe it to me to resolve it.)

In any event, yes, I for one would support burying the 1812 hatchet so to speak.

No,there is no need to further Obama's apology agenda to all nations we have "offended" or just kicked their collective butts in the past. Our friendship with our best ally is still strong even though Obama has tried everything to ruin our relationship with all of our great allies.I'm sure Britain,Australia,Canada and New Zealand will continue to watch our six at all times regardless of what Obama does.I for one salute the Tommies,Aussies,Canucks and you New Zealanders for your friendship over the years and I know they join us in praying Obama will not get 4 more years to finish his transformation of America into a Liberal/Progressive/Socialist country.

only if the US would like the artifacts looted from the white house when it was burned returned

the ship that went down in a storm that had them was recently discovered and some artifacts are intact
