Do JWs have Bible studies without using JW materials? Front door studies VS back door?

I found this question hilarious asked by an ex-JW who is an apostate.

Do people really not know the difference between a "front door study" (the normal door to door preaching work) and a "back door study"?

Front door is the formal work, but we have a saying, if you can't get in the front door, go in through the back door.

We don't always tell people we are JWs. When appropriate or when asked, we do. Many other times, esp. those of us who have a good library, internet access, do it using various non JW Bible versions, non JW references (Greek and Hebrew, encyclopedias, historical references, etc)

It is my main study avenue not only due to prejudice against JWs, but also to health issues and being confined to home a lot.

I have my Dad's library of some 80,000 volumes heavily theological and my own library (hard bound and online).

Matthew 12 KJV

36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

The things we know, we found out from non JW Bibles and references (In English only, the NWT NT has existed since 1950 and the full English Bible since 1960).

So the pertinent question is, ARE YOU having a Bible study with a JW and don't even know it?

Thousands of people have done it with me over the years. And we memorize Bible and historical references and information not JW publications (a bulk of us don't even keep them after we've read or scanned them).

Update:

Also, in many places, it would carry the death penalty to announce you are Christian, use literature, etc. or it is not even available so we have to be even more careful. Much of the earth cannot even get JW literature or Bible, yet we still do the preaching work and studies.

Update 2:

In door work, we are obviously JWs (usually unless a lot of Mormons, SDA are in the area). But elsewhere, we are under no obligation by the Bible, by human law or by our faith to just announce to every passerby that we are JWs. We talk about the Bible lots before giving that information. Most carry Bibles with them. Sadly, the KJV just went out of print with the Society. IT was readable, nice and convenient size for purse.

Update 3:

Thanks Truthseeker!

The fact is, JWs do this ALL the time and are generally turned down. There are many including myself who have offered this very thing here in R&S.

I've posted a similar question as this several times before letting interested ones know they did not have to use JW Bible, our publications or donate any money, but could use Bible and historical references that are not JW.

One time, I received 2 such requests. One of the men said, boy I must have gotten a lot of response from that, I must have had lots of takers (if only to argue). The fact was, only 2 emailed and they were both favorable. I covered a lot of material on common things, gave reference links online, historical sources to check, etc. I did never hear from either of them again.

I have posted similar offers of welcoming Bible and religion questions/discussion on penpal websites and other places on the net. Now and then I hear back from someone that they got baptized.

I basically teach people how

Update 4:

Roberta, I love our concordance. I have lost mine (which was old and damaged anyway) and need to get a new copy.

I have a really good memory, but often get numbers messed up so need help with chapter and verse at times and now and then with which book it is in. The concordance is pretty much the only reference I ever use. The rare time I need more, I ask some JWs I know online as I don't have the WT library cd (though it is on http://www.jw.org/ now).

Have a great day!

Update 5:

That is, I teach people how to research: How to use public library, interlibrary loan system, online libraries and sources, concordances, etc. We also (when someone expresses a doubt that others actually believe/teach that) encourage them to call preachers/parsonage of other churches and ask while we are sitting there with them. They are in the phone book.

The point is we study THE BIBLE with people.

    Their own Bible.

We try to get them to see what the Bible actually teaches.

They are often surprised that NONE of the primary doctrines they heard in their churches come from the Bible.

If we use our literature it is as a study guide.

We strongly encourage everyone to LOOK UP ALL THE SCRIPTURES.

Then they should do lots and lots of research on their own.

We WANT them to ask and ask questions and look up the answers themselves.

We want them to really learn HOW to study. Not many people know how to do that.

People need to prove to themselves that what the Bible really teaches is the truth. They need to use their minds to really THINK.

Yes, but most people who are willing to study do not mind using our literature as a reference. We use it as a reference because we do not know who might be at the door and what they might be interested in, and appropriate scriptures may not come immediately to mind, while there they are referenced in the literature.

In fact, a LOT of witnessing is done without literature, in informal and impromptu settings. But if there is a question we have to know where to go in the Bible to answer, and there is where the literature is very helpful.

The first century Christians used the codex extensively in their ministry, which was an early form of the book. They had to because they had to go throughout the world in their ministry as Acts 1:8 said. The entire inspired scriptures, including the gospels and the letters from Paul and others that we have today were available by the end of the first century.

Population experts have estimated the world population at that time to be about 300 million. That is about the size of just the United States. Now we are at 7 billion, and each has his or her own things to think about. Jesus said that the works that his disciples will be doing will be greater than those that he did (John 14:12), and certainly that is true considering the sheer scope of the world wide preaching work.

We must maintain our unity of message. For instance, in Africa, as well as here in the US, we believe in one wife for each husband, and they must be faithful to each other. Some "missionaries" from other religions do not insist on that practice in their membership.

    The principle is here:

“‘Do not go beyond the things that are written,’ in order that you may not be puffed up individually in favor of the one against the other. For who makes you to differ from another? Indeed, what do you have that you did not receive? If, now, you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?”—1 Cor. 4:6, 7.

I would not even bother with it or them, "pearls before swine and what is holy to dogs" comes to mind!
