Christians, do you really believe in a loving God?

...who will burn us FOREVER for a FINITE crime?

I know the knee-jerk reaction to this is "we're all fallen sinners, we all deserve it unless we repent." You don't seriously think anyone deserves eternal punishment for a finite crime, do you? There's NO possible finite crime, of any magnitude, that deserves eternal punishment. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Do you really think this is a loving God?

Update:

Count Capeula - I realize that, and I respect them for actually taking their beliefs to the 21st century and evaluating them. However most of them do believe in Hell, and it's spelled out in the Bible.

There are three words in this question that christians have no clue as to the meaning of...

    1. Really

    2. Believe

    3. Loving

Yes, this is because it is through the love of God that God will not force Himself upon us. If God forced us to go to Heaven when we do not want to that is not true love. True love from God will allow us to do what we want even though it may be wrong for us to do certain things. For example, if a person chooses to sin against God one is choosing to reject God. When one rejects God one is doing a foolish choice by rejecting all the characteristics of God. If one does this then one will not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven where all the characteristics of God are experienced, but will go to Hell where none of them are felt.

You're asking for a reasonable answer from religious believers.

God is loving, true. He is also Holy and as such does not allow sin to go unpunished.

Jesus took the punishment we deserved on himself.

If you reject Christ, you are subject to the wrath you have earned.

Since the crime was committed against an infinite God, and you continue to sin in Hell, it is only right that the punishment is eternal too.

You will not get a legitimate answer to this question from the brainwashed folks, trust me, i have been trying to get this question answered in a logical sense for years.

    Tulula Aisha,

How many parents do you know that throw their children into a bonfire when they disobey?

People don't go to Hell for sinning. People go to Hell for rejecting God. I think that God loves everyone and sending people to Hell is something that he doesn't want to do but has to do. Like how parents don't really want to punish their kids because they love them, but they can't just reward them for refusing to listen to their parents, along with the kids who did.

    So yes, no, and yes.

Spending eternity in Hell is not the penalty for our sins, it’s the consequence of being unable to pay the penalty. The penalty for our sins is the life of a sinless person, the righteous for the unrighteous (1 Peter 3:18). None of us is sinless so none of us is qualified to pay the penalty. Not for ourselves or anyone else.

Jesus agreed to pay the penalty for us, as long as we agreed to let Him. Because He was sinless, He was qualified to do so. As soon as He gave His life for us we were free. The penalty had been paid, and we were able to avoid the consequences of being unable to pay.

Therefore people don’t go to Hell to pay the penalty for their sins. They go to Hell because they can’t pay the penalty and refused to let Jesus pay it for them.  Even after spending eternity in Hell, they’ll still owe the same penalty as they did on their first day there. That's why hell is eternal torment.

True. There is no perpetual torture. Sin and sinners are destroyed in the lake of fire that purifies the earth so YAHUSHUA can make all things new, and very good.

You are just not looking at it in the proper context of 'abject terror' ...

  • I actaully wonder the same question too
