U.S. Navy question. NUPOC vs Navy OCS?

Im a systems engineering student, 3.4 gpa currently a sophomore, I've been thinking about applying to NUPOC for a while now to become a Nuke SWO, but I REALLY want to be a naval aviator or NFO but the navy got rid of the BDCP.

College is getting harder to pay for, Im tired of digging myself in more debt with these loans that's honestly why im considering NUPOC, but the stories of Nuke SWO's kind of make me nervous in pursuing it.

So my question is: Is NUPOC and the SWO lifestyle worth all the money? Or should I continue to take out loans and take a chance and apply for that pilot/NFO slot

at this point in time i don't plan on making the Navy a career (if that helps) i will do my best in everything i do during my time in the navy despite what job i get

I thought you were on independent status under fafsa due to having been at Usafa. The initial active duty service obligation of Nupoc Officer candidates does not accrue Post 9/11 GI Bill Educational Benefits, so there is a tradeoff. Pilot is eight years active duty after attaining wings and NFO is six years for both the Navy and Marines. Add on the two years to earn wings and eight to ten years is a long time for a guy who does not want to make it a career, halfway to retired pay. At the present time, the Navy gets most of its Pilots from the Naval Academy and Nrotc. More Naval Academy and Nrotc commissioned Ensigns were selected for Naval Aviator than any other designator this past year. If you are set on being a Pilot/Nfo the PLC might offer more certainty. Can always apply for the PLC and if not selected then apply for Navy Ocs.

    Good Luck!
