10 lb Shih-Tzu swallowed cooked pork bone, PLEASE HELP.?
My 2 year old Shih-Tzu swallowed a cooked pork bone, NOT a rib, about an hour ago. She is about ten lbs and the bone, although not particularly sharp, was an 1.5 inches long and .5 inches thick and HARD. I am extremely worried!
I have read that many dogs digest bones without a problem. However, I have also heard so many things about how cooked bones shatter and can perforate digestive lining. Apparently chicken bones are the worst, closely followed by pork bones.
She swallowed it whole, but even if there are no sharp edges, I feel that the bone was large enough to obstruct her bowel functions.
Shih-Tzu seems fine now, she swallowed that bone easily with no choking, and I have fed her some white rice as per internet suggestions. I know the signs that something is wrong (vomiting, white gums, loss of appetite) but how long do I need to watch for? I have heard conflicting answers, ranging from 72 hour danger zone to dogs who have been fine for days then weeks later are affected and then need surgery.
Should I try to induce vomiting or something? What can I do for her now? She is my first dog, and I am kicking myself for being so careless. Please help!
Shih-Tzu did NOT CHEW the bone, if that is relevant. The bone was gone in a few seconds. We have fed her scraps from the table before but always soft foods like spinach.
PAST HISTORY: She swallowed a small rubber balloon once, about a year ago. I get the feeling that she has been swallowing other things, as every once in a while she hacks/coughs/gags for long periods of time (5-10 min.)
Is there anything I can do before I go the vet?
And what about her diet? Should I feed her less or more or normal tomorrow? I heard canned pumpkin and white bread work.

It's not going to shatter and become sharper. Her stomach acids will attempt break it down. Don't feed rice. Rice does nothing good for a dog despite what rice happy people think. It's a grain and irritant and this is not what your dog needs. If your dog becomes impacted from this pork bone then you have all this rice stuck behind it. Just let her system work on it while you wait to go to the vet. Don't induce vomiting. It's already out of the gut by now. In the next 4 or more hours watch for constipation or any blood, or vomiting. Just call your vet and ask what you should do while you wait because there is a lot of bad info on the net.

For your peace of mind -- and to have your dog under the best care --- call your vet in the morning and have your dog seen. We will usually take an xray of the belly after a full exam. Then, if the dog is doing okay, we will repeat the xray at a later time, either that evening or the next morning. The vet can compare the xrays and generally tell if your dog is in trouble. Sometimes the vet can tell from the first xray. We have taken several xrays, following what our vets call "the gas pattern."
If you take her in, you'll know you did everything you could to help her. And your vet and his staff will be able to keep track of the situation.
You are right to be very concerned. Good luck -- and don't beat yourself up anymore. It was an accident.

i personally say keep an eye on her the next few days.
I find it hard to believe that a bone would cause issues weeks later
no, do not induce vomiting.. it could get stuck trying to come back up, and your result will be a choking dog.. if it was an hr ago, odds are the bone is no longer in the stomache anyways.
