how should i position my injured left knee?

i was at an amusement park yesterday. i was jumping over the rails (while using my arms to give me an extra push upwards) to get to the line quicker, but i jumped a bit short and hit my left knee onto the rail. ever since then ive been feeling pain every time i bend my left knee.

when i was coming home i could bend my left knee (probably because i was sitting down for over an hour at the car ride home). the only time i felt pain was when i was walking up and down the stairs, or squatting down. now, when i woke up this morning, it hurts again whenever i bend my knee.

what should i do to treat this injury? should i keep my left knee bent as much as possible, or should i keep it straight? i've been applying ice on it ever since i got home from the amusement park.

Keep icing it periodically and elevate it above you heart. This should help prevent swelling. I would give it a few days and if it isn't getting better I might consider going to a doctor. If you're 21+ try some aspirin.

21+ for aspirin - wtf? More like 12+! Plus under 12s can take baby aspirin & aspirin is like the weakest analgesic there is!! Lol.

No I'd try some neurofen and a sports rub. It's obviously bruised and maybe slightly dislocated. If you have nowhere to go in the next few days then I'd just rest & keep applying ice 20 mins on 20 mins off. Also do some gentle stretching if you can to keep the muscles supple. If after a couple of days it's not getting better I'd call your doctor.
