Is there a difference in taste when you use store bought lemon juice as opposed to fresh lemon juice?
I love to cook and experiement with dishes I find on foodnetwork.com. I see a lot of recipes that call for lemon juice and zest. I usually by store bought lemon juice but is there a difference in taste between store bought and juice squeezed from an actual lemon? And also, does zest really have that much flavor into it because I have noticed a lot of recipes calling for orange, lemon and lime zest.

Big difference, mainly because most, if not all, store-bought lemon juices
are made from concentrate and it's just not the same as fresh
Lemon zest and orange zest are very intense compared to the rest of the
fruit and a little goes a long way.

Yes there is.It is nowhere near as good as fresh lemons. The zest does have a lot of flavour & is generally used in recipes that don't need a lot of liquid such as tuna patties etc.

Fresh every time, when zesting make sure you wash lemons & oranges well because they are sometimes wax coated to make them last.

Yes fresh us better, however for somethings you can get away with bottled. Example if I were making a lemon glaze for a cake I must use fresh.

Rule #1: fresh is ALWAYS better than shop-bought.
Rule #2: try things. Then you will know.
