Do all LED and LCD TV's captions not show when in HD mode?
I recently bought my goddaughter a new tv for her birthday but she is hearing impaired and needs the captions on but the captions only show in tv mode not in HD. Do all LED and LCD tv's captions only play in tv mode? If anyone knows of a tv that shows captions in HD mode please let me know. Her tv is an Emerson and when we called the company, they told us that the captions only show in tv mode.
They have a comcast HDTV cable box but when going into the menu and cable box setup, it doesn't give an option for closed captioning.

If she is using a cable box, go into it's menu and find the "accessibility" settings and closed captioning should be in there.
Did you check the owner's manual of the tv, I think the person you spoke with is wrong and the tv should show cc on any setting. Look at the tv remote and see if you see any button with a cc on it. I believe it's the law that all settings show cc so you should be able to find it somewhere.

Bascially yes.
It has nothing to do with being LCD, it is that VBI data (which carries the caption data), does not carry on component, VGA (at all), or HDMI, at last when they are carrying 480P or higher. Because of that HD cable/satellite boxes MUST support closed captions themselves. You just need to find the caption options in the menu, or on the remote.
