My computer won't read MP4 files!?

It use to before I installed Ubuntu. Now that I have switched back to Windows XP, it will not read them. I've ran all the updates (at least the ones that came to me.) It still won't read them. If I'm not mistaken, Windows Media Player 11 is suppose to offer native support for watching this video format... but it won't. Help? What should I do?

MP4 files aren't supported natively in WMP11. That is new functionality in WMP12. In WMP11, you would have had to download some third party filter(Splitter) to play these MP4 videos.

You can go to this link to get some more details about the splitter: http://www.mgtek.com/dopisp/manual/html/infAddingM...

    Steps:

    1. Download and install the K-lite codec pack from : http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_p... This provides the necessary splitters and codecs required for viewing the file type.

    2. Restart the computer to allow the installation changes in system file updates to take effect.

    3. Navigate to the MP4 file you wish to play.

    4. Double left-click the MP4 file in the Explorer window. This launches the MP4 file in Windows Media Player 11 and automatically begins playback.

Hope this will resolve the issue !!! Thanks a lot
