When someone is willing to help me out in anyway I always sincerely thank them, if they give more I tell them how generous they are and I'm grateful. I just think it should be common courtesy to do so.

Thank you can also be implied with gestures such as smiling, kissing, hugging, and even a head nod. Thank you's are overrated to some but many expect a thank you in return after they have given.
