A question about the Death Star in Star Wars...?
I'm not well versed in Star Wars canon. I've seen the 6 movies and some special editions, I know some passing knowledge about the expanded universe that might be spoiler-ful if I mentioned them to other casual fans.
What I don't understand is, the Death Star. The first Death Star starts building at the end of Revenge of the Sith and becomes fully operational in the middle of A New Hope. The second Death Star, I don't recall if it's ever being shown that it was started but the Return of the Jedi it looks like it's incomplete, and yet is still fully functional. This seems a bit odd to me, doesn't make much sense. Can someone perhaps explain this arguable (and small) plot hole to me?

First off, Lucas dances on the line dividing genius and insanity. Some aspects just won't make sense. In the one version of A New Hope, we had a skinny Jabba, but had a normal, heavy version at the pod races.
The "who shot first?" aspect of the remakes is another example.
The books add another level of confusion because the continuity oversight was sometimes lacking. Sometimes it was like the stories that one person starts, then another adds to. Actually, that's exactly the case.
You -will- find aspects you disagree with at times when you get far enough into things. I guess Lucas has "the final word" on it because the franchise was his creation, but some of his edits are questionable.
But your question now is a matter of knowing where to look.

"Different from the Empire's first Death Star, which, as a result of supply and design problems, took twenty-one years to be considered an operational battlestation, this much larger Death Star took far less time, approximately two to four years, to construct. Methods of faster construction had been developed in the years since the original station's conception, added to the fact that Imperial engineers made sure to allocate enough space on the station for the maximum possible amount of self-replicating construction droids."

I do not think it is a hole in the plot, there were 2 Death Stars. You actually listed the info and the sequence properly. The 1st death star was destroyed, so a 2nd one was desired by the Empire. It was fully operational, although the exterior of it was not complete when it was shown in episode 6. I like the Star Wars series, not everyone does. There are some inconsistencies in them, but overall, it is a great series of movies.

After the events of A New Hope the construction of the 2nd Death Star began in secret. The 2nd half of Return of the Jedi is when the Rebellion learns of the 2nd Death Star from some "Bothan'' spies and then they blow it up too.

Lucas Has f u c k e d up the star wars franchise. He made it so you have to watch them in a different order. Not in order but mixed order look it up I don't know in top of my head.
