How can progressives buy the myth that the parties "switched platforms"?

One aspect of Liberal ideas and Conservative ideas is: They have to be placed in context.

Part of the context is their point in Time.

What our brilliant Founding Fathers provided for all Responsible Citizens is Liberty. To accomplish that, they gave us a constitution that Limits Government and grants the Foundation of Power to the Citizen.

Why? Why not make themselves Kings? Because they knew that Power Corrupts. So they spread the Power as thinly s possible.

THAT was a Liberal idea at that time.

Once established, maintaining that foundation requires careful maintenance and change must be carefully thought out Prior to making those changes. It is foolish to establish a change as an "experiment" because to reverse any damage caused is almost impossible.

Therefore it is Conservative thought that maintains what is good and resists foolish experimentation.

Therefore, from the viewpoint of History, what was Liberal became Conservative.

Now that America has the Best Government Anywhere, we are smart to stay Conservative.

Conservatives are NOT afraid of Change but they are Smart enough to know that Change must be well thought out.

I am a Conservative Republican but they are partially correct. The Southern Baptist Democrats who were the religious, globalist, big government (by means of military and police) did create and become the neoconservative wing of the Republican Party. They are the Bush's, McCain, Lindsey Graham's of our party and they are the ones that htink abortion is more important than our economy.

Now, just as many stayed with the Democrats despite their hatred for the anto-war movement and the socialists especially after LBJ was followed by McGovern in the primaries. These were people like Al Gore's father, Byrd, Hollings.

The fact that you continue to ask this question over & over, and continue to be obsessed with this topic, shows that you know that deep down that the parties did indeed switch.

It began to slowly change since the New Deal, but the pivotal moment was 1964, after the Civil Rights Act was signed by a Democratic President, and during the '64 Presidential Elections when Southern Democrats threw their support behind Republican Barry Goldwater, who voted against the Civil Rights Act.

Richard Nixon also used his "Southern Strategy" to scoop up disenfranchised Segregationists in the South, many being Democrats. In the process, Blacks and Liberals in the Republican Party and elsewhere, began to shift towards the Democrats.

Southern Conservative Segregationist Democrats have voted Republican ever since.

Today's Republicans = yesterday's Segregationists.

Don't be deceived by Cons today who will revise history and claim that Southern Segregationist Democrats were "Liberals", and how they remained Democrats until this day. There's a reason why the Southern States went from being Democrat-dominated for decades to being Republican-dominated since the 1960's. And there's a reason why Blacks historically voted Republican, and now vote Democrat. The ideology didn't change in the south, nor did it among blacks - the only thing that changed was the party label.
