divde 21 11/16" (of an inch) by 2. like if you pulled a tape measure on a piece of wood and it was 21 11/16",how would you divide it by 2? please show a step by step process if possible

divide each piece and combine is one method
21/2 = 10 1/2
11/16 /2 = 11/32
answer is 10 1/2 + 11/32
or 10 16/32 + 11/32
or 10 27/32
Another method is to convert to 32nds.
21 11/16 = 347/16
half of that is 347/32
347/32 = 10 27/32

(21 and 11/16)" divided by 2 = {(21/2) + [(11/16)/2]} = (10.5 + .6875/2)" = (10.5 + .34375)"
(10.5 + .34375)" = 10.84375" = 10" + 84,375/100,000" = 10 and 27/32 inches
Or you can work it in your head by recognizing that half of 21" is (10 and 16/32)" and that half of 11/16" is 11/32". Then just add (10 and 16/32)" to 11/32" to get (10 and 27/32)".

Try and use a high advanced calculator. A regular one won't solve this problem I think.
