I can't sing without music. ?

I think I'm ok at singing while listening to music. But once without music or without the singer I sound bad. Like if there's noone singing that I can't sing along to, I sound horrible. What should I do? There's gonna be a singing test soon where I have to sing alone in front of the class just with background music.

What's the problem? Do you forget the rhythm, the lyrics, or the pitch? Here the song several times, concentrating mostly on what you forget. Then sing the song with the music in the background. Then again with lower volume, and again with even lower volume, and so on until there's no background music at all. It'll take you a couple of days to get it right, but eventually it'll just click.

I recommend practising singing scales according to the song and singing each note according to the sheet music. Most of the time it's just nerves, so I suggest to relax a lot beforehand and drinking a lot of water to hydrate your throat (but not too much! You don't want to have to sing while needing to pee at the same time). I don't know how you sound (you're probably not as horrible as you think), but get someone close to you who is not tone deaf to listen to you sing, even if it's just a part of the song, and as for advice on what you can improve on.

Sorry if this isn't much help, but good luck anyway!!

If you suck at singing alone that means you can't sing at all
