Why do people say Timothy Dalton is the worst James Bond?

I was looking at this question:

If you've ever read the Ian Fleming's books, you'd know that Timothy Dalton gave the most accurate performance of the character. Also, Ian Fleming's vision of James Bond's physical appearance was based on an actor named Hoagy Carmichael. Search him up on Google Images and you'll find out Dalton was the closest in terms of appearance. He should at least be considered one of the top three Bond actors.

Update:

Oh wait, I forgot Craig. Dalton is the second most accurate after Daniel Craig.

People tend to not like change, and James Bond fans are no exception. For many, no one will ever replace Sean Connery. That is probably the main reason why each and every Bond actor has had some degree of harsh critics ...

Timothy Dalton was replacing Roger Moore, a very popular Bond with 7 movies under his belt. And Dalton's movies were quit a departure from the lighter, campier portrayals of Moore. By the mid 80's the "cinematic Bond" had replace Flemings literary Bond in many peoples eyes. Dalton's realistic approach (while very true to the novels as you pointed out) was just too different for some. Not since the 60's had they seen a Bond film that serious. But that doesn't mean the films weren't good (The Living Daylights & Licence to Kill are both among my favorites!)

Dalton is a great actor, and was a great Bond! And his spirit lives on somewhat in the gritty performances of Daniel Craig.

I don't like Daniel Craig because he rmade Bond into a jerkass blond man instead of an honorable dark-haired man.

My rule: NEVER make a movie with a blond male protagonist.

I think it wasnt so much him but his two movies. He was originally supposed to take the part when Roger Moore was, but scheduling for him wasnt working, so he waited and got it years later.

The two movies he did were.... kind of weak when compared to most of the other movies, save for Tommorrow Never Dies which should have been made with Sean Conery instead of the much better, Pierce Brosnan.

Sean Conery to me was the worst.

Timothy Dalton desperate to stop the area after criminal issues halted production of the Bond videos interior the early Nineties. the certainty he did only 2 Bond videos had no longer something to do together with his overall performance in the two "The residing Daylights" or "Licence To Kill." As for no count if Dalton became ideal for the area, many followers of the literary Bond -- myself blanketed -- experience that Dalton's portrayal became the closest to the Ian Fleming Bond than any of the actors earlier him. The Bond videos on the top of the Sean Connery era and for the duration of the Roger Moore era weren't everywhere close to the character as created by using Fleming.
