You aren't overthinking it. This question is just... stupid. It's almost like they were being redundant by accident.

Here's my guess. I would go with B. Why B over E? Because it just sounds better in the sentence. Also, I think of the cell as a regulating system. It actively regulates what comes in and out of it. Using the word "balance" implies that the membrane just kinda floats around and passively lets stuff through. It doesn't always. There are protein pumps and all kinds of wicked cool stuff to decide what goes in and out of the cell. Regulation is occurring.

Homeostasis is the action that leads to a sort of equilibrium, but it has a much bigger and fuller meaning than equilibrium. Again, I feel like equilibrium implies passivity, and I believe the cell is not a passive entity.

I hope my bit of biological philosophy helps you :P

These matters are all related in that they are involved with moving things into and out of cells. I would do a exact search on each of the topics and skim the lengthy explanations. Homeostasis is a word that means keep the whole lot the identical. So every time there is a change, homeostasis kicks in to get it again the way it was. It'll take me at the least an hour to answer all of those in a method to be able to make sense. I am hoping any one else can reply them faster. If now not, are trying asking every of them separately.
