Are Spiritualists and Mediums Fake ?

They are, however they also sometimes give people hope, relief and drive to achieve things. I don't like the thought that someone can dictate my future to me. For example if they told you you will meet the woman/man of your dreams in Starbucks, you will spend the rest of your life in Starbucks looking for them. My girlfriend has been in the past and they have said she will have twins and then land an extremely well paid job. I can no longer have kids (I have a daughter already) so should she leave me to find this person to have twins and land this job?
Almost every session ends with you needing to book again to find out more info, they know exactly what they are doing.
I think some of these people actually believe what they are doing, others know they are conning people. Derren brown did a good show to disprove their claims and showed you how they fish for information to make it sound realistic
Finally, there is a multi million pound prize which has been on offer for around 20 years to anyone who can prove it is real. There have been hundreds upon hundreds of people who have a gone for it and failed. if you really could do it, you could be a multi millionaire. I think this alone proves it doesn't work

I would say that the very vast majority of them are caring empathetic people dedicated to producing evidence of the afterlife and bringing comfort to bereaved people. They certainly believe it themselves. Whether what they do is genuine contact of the spirits of the deceased, or whether it is simply unconscious 'cold reading' (picking up clues and affirmations from the body language of the participants) is debatable.
My criticism is always - if they can pick up such detailed messages for loved ones, why is it they can never simply pick up the full name of the spirit? It would be a lot easier to say 'I have an Arther WIlliam Jackson here - he was married to Margaret and they had 2 children called John and Richard.' That would tell exactly who it was adn who the message was for. But they don't. They say stuff like 'I have a John here. Or it could be James. ANyone in the audience had a John or an James pass over?' SIlence in the audience. Then someone says 'I knew a Jamie' .... and so it evolves as the audience pass the clues.
Personally I dont believe it but I know many people involved in the spirituallist movement and they are all very genuine in themselves. I think its just a physhological phenomoenon that people want os badly to belive it, they just block out form their realisation how many mistakes or false starts the medium goes through.
I knew a friend who could pick up intuitive stuff about people in an incredibly accurate way. He could describe exactly what their bedroom looked like in great detail. If he had been pretending to be a medium, he would have been convincing. But he was just really good at compartmentalising people into character types, and describing those traits. People thought he was looking into their soul, but he just understood people really well.

Many, yes. Not all. I've had some strange and very unsettling experiences with such people. I don't mean people I've paid, either. If you pay someone, you're always going to be thinking, "Hmm, maybe they just want to give me my money's worth, so they're just putting on a show for me?" But there are times when that doesn't apply - when certain things happen that blow you away - of course, a lot of the mediums that are real are also very unenlightened people. They have that sensitivity to the realms beyond but because of that, many of their clients believe them to be "saints" or very highly developed beings. That is very rarely true. Those who are highly developed spiritually would not debase themselves by going into business based on those abilities ... hope this helps ...

They certainly are... they pray on vulnerable, naïve and gullible people who are clinging to the hope that they will be able to contact their loved ones who have passed away. Have you heard of any Spiritualists /Mediums who don't charge for their 'services' ???

I would say yes. There was a "spiritualist" in Birmingham (England) where I used to live who read palms and other such guff and claimed to forsee the future. Her shop was closed one day "Due to unforseen circumstances"

Just like our physical bodies have five senses, our spirits do too. Some people can see spirits, hear them, etc. It's a gift to be that sensitive. As far as going to someone to tell you about your future, it doesn't matter what they can or can't see, what they do or don't know. You are in charge of your future. You create your own life. That is partially the trouble with things like astrology and fortune telling, people read and take things like they are set in stone. They aren't. I believe that there is energy that affects us, but more than anything our thoughts will and actions create.

Find out for yourself. They obviously are fake yes, but what is the harm in enjoying the fantasy as long as you keep it separate from the rest of your life?

They fall into two groups, the deluded and the charlatans. The deluded do little harm. The charlatans are easy to pick, they charge money for their services.
