Black hurricanes? I am NOT making this up!?

This story is verified on Snopes.com

Just when you think you have heard all of the stupid things that are going on in the US -- this comes along.....Black hurricanes....

Well, it appears our African-American friends have found yet something else to be pissed about.. A black congresswoman (this would be Sheila Jackson Lee, of Houston reportedly complained that the names of hurricanes are all Caucasian sounding names. She would prefer some names that reflect African-American culture such as Chamiqua, Tanisha, Woeisha, Shaquille, and Jamal.

She would also like the weather reports to be broadcast in 'language' that street people can understand because one of the problems that happened in New Orleans was, that black people couldn't understand the seriousness of the situation, due to the racially biased language of the weather report.

I guess if the weather person says that the winds are going to blow at 140+ MPH, that's too hard to understand

This is hypothetical but just what would a Street talk weather report sound like?

A weatherman in New Orleans says...

Wazzup, mutha-fukkas! Hehr-i-cane Chamiqua be headin' fo' yo @$$ like Leroy on a rocket! This bit ch be a category fo'!

So, turn off dem chitlins, grab yo' chirren, leave yo crib, and head fo' de nearest FEMA office fo yo safety.

Is this the fault of our failed educational system?

Update:

Mike I am not a racist. I am just tied of all this stupidity that takes us nowhere. By the way this was an from an e-mail sent to me by one of my black friends. He too see this as just a wrench in the gears preventing us from moving forward.

All I did was verified it to be true on Snopes.com

I didn't know posting facts could be an act of racism. Maybe the conclusions can be racist but facts are just facts. We may not always like them but that doesn't change the truth.

Anyway, I once read a long essay about why textbooks should be published in 'ebonics'. I thought it was a joke but it was written in the early 70's and the author was actually serious.

That was humorous. But while it is sad that this lady would insist naming hurricanes after usual Black names. Hurricanes are usually not enjoyable, they're critical and deadly. Who would need a storm named after them? I definite don't. However they are not able to use my name considering the fact that it way gorgeous and there is nothing lovely a few hurricane.

Well, "evacuate" is a four syllable word. Evidently New Orlean's mayor didn't get it either. Still the people interviewed at the stadium seemed intelligent enough. I think they just couldn't imagine what happened to them. A lot of them didn't want to leave their pets.

If you could let go of your racism for a moment, maybe you could see Rep. Lee's point.

Our educational system is designed to make people educated. Not to make people White.
