Is it bad to skip class?

Ok so I just started college and in one of my classes (Bioscience) the professor is like really old and explains stuff badly. Like he uses hard words and basically I don't understand a word that he's saying. The class is about 200+ and hes just lecturing. Yesterday I was in class bored and basically since I couldn't understand what he was saying I end up daydreaming and doodling. So I figured I was wasting my time, so I left and did some homework for that class, read the chapter that he was going over (Let me just add that the book is awesome and massages my brain) and later on printed out his powerpoints and went over that to make sure I have the information he discussed in class in case I over looked it in the book. Also I had another large class this morning that was really early and due to so much studying at the library I went to sleep super late and I end up skipping that class (political science) so I'll have enough energy for my other classes that day. So I've been in school less that a month and I don't plan to make this a habit. I don't skip class just for fun I usually go to the library to study and I make sure not to miss the small classes as well as I look over the syllabus and make sure I eventually go over the material I might have missed in class. If I end up skipping a couple more times throughout the school year will it eventually bite me in the ***? And is this normal?

Update:

I never skipped in high school because In general I'm not a skipped. I attend most my college classes its just that if I sit and try to absorb the info and its not working out, I've just wasted that time where I could be studying. I know we pay to get taught but some teachers aren't very good at teaching and you have to teach yourself for you to get the info.

If you have to ask this question, you don't belong in a university.

College is a whole new animal. There is no such thing as "skipping class", really. you attend as you see fit, mostly. Get the class syllibus and see when mandatory lectures or tests are scheduled. Consider those the "never miss" dates, the rest are optional.

    HOWEVER!!!!

The professor is there to teach you. Study the material and go to them for clarification if you do not get it. Many (most, really) post videos or at least transcripts of their lectures online, watch the ones relevant to the topic before you go to them. Nothing irritates a prof more than being asked a basic question that is covered in the lecture.

And if you are not doing well in the class, attend the class more!

You're paying for those classes, so skipping them is a waste of your money. Go, sit in the back, bring the book, and do what you're doing at home in the lecture. That way you have the opportunity to ask questions and you won't miss important announcements. It's too bad it's not a more stimulating lecture, but not all professors are good at that kind of thing. I skipped a few classes entirely in my day, and still earned A's - but it's not a good idea in general.

this is VERY normal! its okay to skip class every once in a while and in your case its not really that big of a deal because with large classes professors do not take attendance. Atleast you skip class for a good cause! As long as you keep up with the readings and notes and understand the course you are fine. I skip class too but its harder for me because I attend a small college where they do take attendance . You have an advantage! But try not to skip even if your mind wonders sometimes. goodluck
