How was colonial America different from Great Britain?

More specifically, how were they different economically, socially, and politically?

In many ways. Slavery had died out in Britain at the time of the black death. Possible a hangover

from Roman times serfs were tied to the farm and belonged to the farm. They were not bought and sold. In colonial america slavery started up.The political elite of colonial times were slave owners.

persons in debt in England could sell themselves as a bondsman for a period of years . A form of slavery. Concepts of poor. the honest poor, persons who had fallen on hard times and who were helped by the provison of almhouses and parish help. Otherwise the criminal poor.

From time imemorial the penalty for theft had been execution, prisons being a later invention.

With the availability of the American colonies , the law started getting rather lax! Instead of executing thieves , they were transported to the colonies instead. I rather suspect that towns such as Boston

of tea party fame must have been full of ex convicts most bitter at having been torn from their families.

The great mistake made by Great Britain was allowing the American colonies to have their own

armed forces. It clearly backfired. I note that such a mistake has never been made by any other

Empire. (the Roman expire recruited in one country but that regiment served elsewhere. )

Another difference is land. In Europe the land had been owned and used for centuries. Allowing no spare land for expansion. The plague wiped out whole villages, leaving room for incomers.

In America there was plenty of land to be won. All this coincided with an increasing knowledge of health and hygene and agriculture. This creating a surplus of population

with an outlet westwards both from Great Britain and Europe.

Great Britain was an old, staid, feudal society (that takes care of your 'social, economical and political' aspect). The colonial legacy they left behind was looking in the opposite direction. They were working on a virgin continent that wasn't tilled & they were building a nation along with their destiny with hope in hearts. They got an opportunity to work hard assured of rewards and that got translated into prosperity. It was possible because their society was devoid of the value system of Great Britain that they gave up willingly (or escaped from it).

Civilized some international places, then bailed out, leaving them to fall apart into chaos. Rhodesia, Kenya and truly some greater.
