Atheists: Do you have any good reasons to be atheist?
If you were going to recommend someone be an atheist, what reasons could you give to convince someone that atheism is the way to go?
I find it interesting that most of the answers use God or gods as a reference. Can you come up with a good answer without using God/gods in your answer?
@Alex:"Badly thought out question. Atheists don't proselytize. I have no need to convince anyone to become an atheist. We all started out that way. You either come back, or you don't."
Imagine someone saying to you, "I'm thinking of taking up atheism; what are some of the better reasons to hold to the atheistic view point?"

>Do you have any good reasons to be atheist?
You mean other than the colossal lack of substantial evidence suggesting that there are any real deities?
>If you were going to recommend someone be an atheist, what reasons could you give to convince someone that atheism is the way to go?
Intellectual freedom and integrity, the possibility of living without fear, etc.

Telling an atheist to answer without "god" is like telling a Christian to explain why they're a Christian without "god". Since you're asking about a point of view on the existence of gods, it only makes sense that they are included in the answer.
HOWEVER, I get the feeling your question has a hidden agenda. You think there's no benefits to being atheist, so you have preconceived notion that there's no point to being atheist (even though you're missing the WHOLE point in the first place).
If you ask such a question, you have no choice but to accept the relevant answers, regardless of your pointless and biased criteria. I, along with EVERY atheist, has one reason in common for being an atheist, complete lack of empirical evidence for any gods. No one chooses to be an atheist because they see something in it for them, or they think there is some objective benefit behind it.
Being an atheist does not guarantee you any benefits, and to me that is way better than what religions do, which is promise benefits that they can't guarantee. I don't want the "objective" morality that religions offer, I'd rather have moralities that are based on current information, careful thought, and rationality, NOT the authority of a mythical being written in a book 2,000 years ago.
Atheists can potentially provide all of the benefits to society that religions offer, just in different ways, but that still has nothing to do the core reason for being an atheist.
I'd choose the Scientific Method over the "Goddidit" method any day.

Do you know what the word atheist means?
Then why is it interesting that most answers mention gods?
Or if you like, look at it this way; the only reason the word atheist exists is,because people do believe in gods.
Gotta be a troll, no ones that stupid...

You mean beside the fact that no gods exist. That is reason enough for me.
Edit: Atheism is the disbelief in gods so how can any answer not deal with that (the disbelief in gods). OK, here goes a try. Atheist chicks are all easy. If you become an atheist and hang out with atheist chicks you will get all the ***** you can handle. As a matter of fact all atheists (of age) attend the giant atheist orgies at least once a month (it's in the bylaws). Happy?

From the dictionary:
atheism:
noun
1. The doctrine or belief that there is no god
Would you like me to discuss my disbelief in the existence of Santa, without talking about Santa?
- Anonymous9 years ago
because there quite clearly isn't a god, especially a theistic god
and the usual utilities for atheism include logical inconsistencies with god e.g. the problem of evil, occam's razor with the big bang and a god, the omnipotence paradox, the emotions paradox etc and scientific arguments e.g. everything that the bible says that god did or said, we now know to be mostly fictional e.g. the earth not being flat, the sun not orbiting the earth, evolution, the weather, natural disasters etc

Given the available evidence, disbelieving god claims is likely to be the only valid position.
I don't understand why loads of people seem to assume that the right answer owes them any sort of compensatory aspect. Reality often "just is".
EDIT
Well, no, of course not. Atheism is not a claim, it's a response to a claim, a claim that gods exist.

Do you have any good reasons to be a man who doesn't like coke
If you were going to recommend someoneto not like coke, what reasons could you give to convince someone that not liking coke is the way to go?
Additional Details
I find it interesting that most of the answers use coke as a reference. Can you come up with a good answer without using coke in your answer?

well how can i give you a good reason to become an athiest without using god as a reference? atheism means to be godless so to not refer to god would be pointless in this situation.
