Was the final shot in goodfellas a homage to the great train robbery?

The final shot where joe pesci is firing a gun towards the screen just lIke the famous final shot at the end of the great train robbery i wanted to know if it was inspired by that scene

    Most definitely. Paulie says to Henry in one part that Tommy is wild card, has to much to prove and is a "Cowboy" I believe that's true anyways and then of course Scorsese is a film nut as we all know and cherishes old cinema. And to top it off they're spitting images just of different cultures both being the final shot of the scene.
