Is it better when your favorite obscure animes stay obscure?

It seems like I'm always trying to encourage people to watch my favorite obscure animes. Sometimes I think that's a mistake: if they were for everyone, they would already be popular, right? And do I really want a lot of people who can't appreciate it watching it and dissing it? Even if it became popular, is it more fun to have a big fanbase to share with, or feel like you're part of a small, elite group of fans?

Your opinions, please. (Feel free to mention/discuss your favorite little-known anime, if you want to.)

i've watched a ton of anime

    some obscure, some popular

every now and then u find Gems and youre surprised that its not more popular. Of course i try and get my friends who like anime to watch them cuz theyre good (and they usually trust me so they do), and then we can talk bout it later or something. Its not like youre trying to get the whole world to like your shows.

I can argue that when something is soo popular, that means it must be somewhat good. I dont believe this makes things that are not popular any less good though, it could come down to just the exposure and/or backing the anime never got. Cuz you can get an anime like Tiger & Bunny( which i liked), but its an anime jam packed with ads, so of course businesses push that anime harder than something that isnt. For a series which i didnt even believe tooooo many people watched, its even getting 2 movies soon.

youre probably better than the small minded guy who ONLY likes naruto/bleach (not saying its bad, i like em too) but i would never consider anyone to be an anime elite including myself. "Anime Elite", i find it an odd concept in itself rly, but im not going to go in to that. either way i kind of prefer it when my anime stay a little more obscure, just cuz i dont like crazy fangirls/fanboys who muck things up with their stubborness as opposed to being objective, and need to write a billion fan fics, make millions of fan pics, and go overly crazy the second someone has a diverging opinion.

Some shows i like that im surprised to see a lot less people talk about : 009-1, Gungrave, tower of druaga..... and im sure there are a bunch more but i cant remember anymore

I really don't care whether the anime I like is popular or not. I enjoy it for my own reasons. It's nice if you can make references to it and people know what you mean, but that certainly won't keep me from watching an obscure anime if I think I'll like it.
