Chat site hacking: empty threats?

So I was on a chat earlier, some person said they could ban my IP address and "ping" my IP in just two minutes, so are they full of crap or what? Don't you need permission from site owners or a fedral warrant to do it legally?

I don't believe this person/troll one bit.

They are full of it, unless you gave them the password to your computer, nothing to worry about, by the way, ping means send an echo signal (to see if it exists.) if he pings it, the most that will happen, is he will know your computer exists. no info will go out to him. he is just trying to scare you.

Source(s): I am a major computer techie and i can hack, and that what those terms mean.

If they are in a position of assisting running that chat room, very possible they can ban you IP.

Remember that a IP address is nothing more than a postal zip code, just identifies an area, it does not identifies an individual like by a street address.

    Most likely an idle threat.

    Depending on what chat site.

    Some people have owner and

    moderator settings. Most of the

time they're trying to give you trash.

They're trying to intimidate you. It's obviously not working. Just ignore it.

Most threats from people on chat sites are bullsh*t.

Unless they have admin privileges, they can't ban you.
