Starting university at 20?

Question

Hi. I'm having a mental breakdown just a tad. I'm 20, living on residence in my first year of uni. I travelled, worked at whatever for some years after high school. 21 birthday is in like a month and im realizing I am sooo much older than all the people here fresh out of high school. Am I crazy to be so panicked about hanging out with people two years, going to be three years younger? How do I meet people older? Ah. And what about finishing my degree at 24, is that superrrr bad? I'm thinking of fast tracking during summers so I can be done at 23. Please let me know your honest view of this situation.

Your age doesn't matter.  If you are having a breakdown, make sure you see your personal tutor.

You're not that much older than them. Just a few years - the difference is that you are more mature. This will be a blessing when you finish, and you can be more confident at interviews, have a wider range of life experience, and generally a better rounded individual. Don't fret, knuckle down do well, and enjoy the next few years.

I'm 18 year old (average age for someone in this class)
and I have people from 24 and 25 in my class.
It's not a big deal at all, as long as you treat them normal. don't act like your much older so you can't hang with them. just do what you do in every other class. get to know the people and try to be friends with them. then you'll probably see that you don't differ that much.

Jeez, relax. The age difference is nothing. Besides, how is anyone going to know how old you are? I finished my degree when I was 35 and lived in residence. Nobody cares how old you are.

There is NO RUSH, you are still young. You can hurry it if you want and get it done earlier, but just enjoy yourself, you are still very young and 2 - 3 years means nothing. Have fun.
