Buying a handgun in California, transfer from private seller.?
The father of a good friend of mine is selling me a new in box 357 king cobra magnum, and I'm considering the purchase, but before that I would like to know what would be the right approach on getting the handgun under my name? im 22.

If you do a Private Party Transfer, then the handgun in question is not required to be on the DoJ Approved Roster. Which is a plus for you.
A PPT in California MUST be done through a CA FFL (for a $35 fee), so that would put it "under your name" so to speak. Although there is no registry in California, there is an optional Firearm Ownership Record you can file.

You would need to do it thru a FFL. Should be about 35 bucks and 10 day wait.
