What is your favorite grocery store?

And why do you like it?

I used to be on the east coast and remember Wegmans, a real feast for the senses. Breathtaking displays of everything food related. Kind of pricey though.

Now I am in Texas...I really like Kroger and HEB. Reasonable prices and great selection.

Update:

I have never been to a whole foods...I have never lived in a city that has one, or passed by one on a road trip, or I would definitely check it out!

Same goes for a Trader Joes. I think that would really be the most fun store ever. Kind of a huge budget friendly health food store.

There is one that is locally owned that I like best because its not huge and they have everything I need and good specials, Berkot's. If I need general foods I go to Aldi. If I have other shopping to do I go to Super Wal-Mart...

Thrifty Foods, or Quality Foods, but neither of those will mean a thing to you if you don't do any grocery shopping on Vancouver Island. They are local only. Both are very good with good prices, great variety of food, good deli section, Quality Foods has a hot food section where I can get enough fresh cooked Chinese food to last me for lunch and dinner, for $8. They stuff so much food in the take-out container, they always have to push down hard to get the lid on, and it's nice to support smaller Canadian owned businesses for a change instead of some US chain store. Whole Foods is nice. I used to live near one and while I certainly wouldn't do my regular shopping in one, it was nice as an occasional treat and they did have some things I couldn't get anywhere else.

Save A Lot. Mine usually has better meat prices than anyone else. Fifty pound bags of potatoes were on sale this week for $8.99 and bell peppers three for a buck. Whole pork loins were $1.79 a pound, (got two of those). Their 'so cheezy' mac and cheese was .39 cents a box and easily compares to Kraft in taste, bought 18 of them. Tomato sauce was .29 cents a can. Stocked up on a lot of stuff this week only to have my wife make me go back and get more mac and cheese while it's on sale. "You know you're suppose to call me when you find a good deal!" Twenty-eight more boxes. Next time I'll just buy them out.

    Kroger

Have been going there for years. The employees are very nice and polite (customer service is a priority to me). Also, if you use coupons and look for the specials, you can save some money.

HEB in my town is dirty and the employees are not informed of what customer service means.

WalMart is out, I get better customer service at an IRS office (Sam Walton would be rolling in his grave if he knew what they are doing to his business).

I used to live in Dallas but don't anymore. Whole Foods was great until Central Market showed up. Central Market (by H.E.B.) is the schiddt. But my favorite is Kuby's Not just for their imported sausages, but for their smoked pork chops. Kuby's brings it.
