Have you ever made things more difficult than they are?

My sister's bathtub/shower was stopped up. Her husband tried to unclog it for a week using a plunger and 3 different products made to eat through the clog. During this week they had to stand in water as they showered and then remove the water.

Her husband was working on plunging then suddenly stopped and said "I think I know what's wrong!"

He flipped the lever to open the stopper and the water drained right away!!

Update:

Knowing him as I do I am sure there were colorful words and I know he was very tired after work.

But they can laugh now and share it with us. I know I have felt incompetent on more than one occasion when I realized I had missed something simple. I have told my sister that they might have outdone us all with that plumbing problem.

Let's laugh at ourselves now and again!!

sometimes we as adults have so many things to think about or under stress that we don't figure out things before we begin. I'd never had used a plunger on a bathtub though; I would have used a hairpin on a thick string to go into the hole and bring stuff up or would have used liquid plumber.

I can tell you that my mother used to tell me that when I was a kid, that I was making things more difficult than they were (like math) or overthinking something but my problem was that at that time I didn't know any better, didn't know the alternatives, and wasn't being taught the things I needed to be or wanted to be taught. But for this guy you're talking about I suspect he didn't sit down and think about the alternatives. Some guys just do a list of the things they know until something finally works. A guys brain is wired differently than a gal's is.

lol...When it comes to decisions I complicate things by being too analytical. They call it "analysis paralysis".

I know I've done things around here and was glad nobody was looking. I call them major brain farts.

The last time I vacuumed I kept going over and over the rug and it barely picked up anything. I had pulled out the old bag but forgot to put in a new one. So then there was dust everywhere.

EDIT....I can make my life very difficult by spending too much time in the problem and not the solution. By the time I'm done dwelling on my problems and trying to think my way out of them I've lost another 16 hours I'll never get back.....instead of "getting out of myself" and experiencing the day!!!

LOL I had a co-worker once pull a whole die apart once to see why the machine would not work. I said lets move all this metal and my work table to see if it is unplugged, nope he said it is the machine so I didn't argue. The boss came along and blew his stack, the s*** really hit the fan when he had to send the die out to a tool and die maker to have it reassembled costing hundreds of dollars in repairs and holding up production You guessed it. It was unplugged.

That is pretty funny but kinda lame!

Yes, many times when I have over thought how to do something, the job became much more complicated.

LOL! Yes, I have been known to make things more difficult than they are. Most of mine comes from trying to be too much of a perfectionist though. I have tried to correct this compulsive behavior over the years and I have stopped expecting so much from myself. However, I do tend to slip on occasion.

I have made things harder by over researching papers for college too. In fact, to the point that one English teacher limited the amount of words I could use in my papers.

I do this all the time, that's why I'm tired all the time and getting older than dirt... It is a good question, so,

how does one make things more difficult...I'd like to know.

    True

When we try to over react to some situations and end up in more complications.

My husband is a plumber, so, I had to share this with him. He just winced and shook his head.

Seems that there all a lot of people who make things more difficult than they are.

    Thanks for the laugh =)
