Can mosquito bites come in clusters (like bed bug bites?)?

I stayed a week with a friend who discovered clustered bite marks on her arm, leg and shoulder. She believed it to be bed bugs which sent me into prevention mode, cleaning, laundering, etc.

She has seen mosquitoes in her apt and when she was cleaning her cats water fountain, dozens upon dozens of mosquitoes flew out of the pipes.

For my sanity, can I possibly start breathing again that it truly may be the mosquitoes biting her, and not bed bugs?

    The Gay Argentian Seal,

The simplest explanation is that the victim tossed and turned, interrupting the feeding before the mosquito had its fill. The mosquito has a sensory nerve that signals it’s brain when the midgut is full, otherwise feeding would continue until the bursting point. Only the female mosquito takes a blood meal when it is carrying fertilized eggs and seeking a blood protein that allows the eggs to develop. Mosquito bites rarely appear in groups, however bedbug bites often appear in groups of three or more, their bites usually, but not always, appear on the upper torso, whilst mosquitos will bite anywhere. The diameter of a mosquito bite can be quite large. Irritation almost always begins at the onset of the bite, which does not happen with bed bug bites. In the centre of a mosquito bite is a white raised centre, which is surrounded by redness. Bed bug bites are never white. They are even, flat bites, which are reddish in colour. Have a look at the bites. Mosquito bites will be in areas of skin that were exposed, such as arms or legs. Whereas, flea and bed bug bites may be anywhere on your body. Note the time of day, when you noticed the bite. Mosquitoes are more common at dawn and dusk. You would likely notice bed bug bites when you first wake up in the morning.

Yes, but not often. Spiders rarely bite more than once, and not likely a sleeping human. If this is not some other biting insect, it may even be a skin condition of sort. You can inspect your bed for traces of insects, fecal remains, shed skins etc.

Is it possible it's something else like heat rash or another alergic reaction? Did you're mom switch detergent or soap brands recently? Since you're on a new medication, you might look into the side effects and call your drs office to ask.
