My cat is pregnant. What do I need to do?

We believe our cat is pregnant and just need some tips. Do we have to feed the newborns anything or do they survive off of the mother's milk for a period of time? Do we need to do anything special with our other cat to keep him away from the kittens? Just any information about kitten care would be fantastic.

Make sure you have blankets available and a box and put it somewhere sort of hidden so that your cat can nest. making it hidden will give it more peace of mind that the kitten will be safe because it is out of sight...in the laundry room or under a computer desk or in a quiet corner could be good places. Make sure you feed the cat nutritional food while she is pregnant and see if you can find a food that is meant for pregnant and nursing cats. the kittens will survive on the mother's milk for a good 2 to 3 months, 12 weeks, and then you will notice them eating cat food as well. they will still nurse, and you will see the mother wean them when she feels they are ready. if the mother does not allow the kittens to nurse at all, you will then have to get a milk suppliment from the vet..not prescribed but just bought from because they have the good stuff, and kitten bottles to make sure they get something to eat. its rare that a cat rejects its babies though, they are more motherly than a lot of other animals. the other cat does not need to be kept away from the kittens unless you notice it being mean towards them.

BEST thing to do is call your vet and get an emergency spay. If you are not willing to do all of the following, don't let her have the litter.

    1. Keep the kittens for at least 10-12 weeks minimum to be sure they are totally weaned and litter pan trained. Kittens are NOT 100% reliable till closer to 3 months old despite what people claim.

    2. Give shots, worming and spay/neuter the kittens before they leave your home.

    3. Be willing to take back any kitten or cat if the owner can't keep them.

Also you will need several thousand for vet emergency bills like needing a c-section? Do you have the time to bottle feed a litter up to 8 kittens if mom won't or can't nurse? If the answer is no to any of this, then why make your cat go thru having a litter she doesn't want or need?

Spay her now and neuter your other cat if he's not done. You have NO clue in how to raise a litter of kittens.

The cat does indeed know what to do. Still fix her a nice soft box. Hopefully she`s gonna be around what she is used to when sh gives birth the kittens should quit drinking the mothers milk around

    1 to 2 months.

You should make the mother a comfy quite place wuere she can give birth, somewhere that she likes to lay. The kittens will live of there moms milk for awhile and when they start walking around they will graduly just start eating kitten food. You can give them kitten milk to get them started off the mothers nipples.

Nothing. The cat knows what it needs and what to do. Keep the kittens (with their mother) for at least two months, please, just to make sure they know they are cats.

    Peace.

Best thing to do is call the vet and have a gravid spay done.

Stick your finger up its butt, and tickle it on the inside, until the baby is released from the jaws of the birthing organs.
