Rubbed new black tattoo in shower to get peels off, now concerned?

After reading around, I didn't know you weren't supposed to rub a new tattoo under water once it starts peeling. While I washed it in the shower, a bunch of in started coming off in peels and I thought "What the heck? I'll just rub as much of the peels as I can now because I don't want them drying up and hanging there."

Well, now the color looks pretty bad and I see what looks like scarring and little white parts in a couple places.

Did I just screw up my tattoo? The artist didn't mention not keeping it under water. Thank God for the free touch up policy.

:(

Update:

I wrapped it the first 3 nights, this is night 5 since getting it and I've been taking such good care of it, only for this to happen.

you didn't necessarily screw it up.Once it heals, you will need to go get it touched up.

When you get it touched up, use your fingers to carefully wash it in the shower. Then pat it dry, that will help preserve the tattoo. Plus, using cocoa butter/tattoo goo in a thin layer will help keep the color too.

No! Clean with soap VERY gently but don't ever rub the excess skin off. That's the ink coming out. When your tattoo is wet, you have to be very gentle and when you get out of the shower, blot it dry with a clean paper towel. You will probably do damage to the tattoo if you keep rubbing the ink out in the shower. It's probably fine now, but don't do it anymore.

yeah sorry to say but you're really not supposed to put a tattoo under water for a while.. i remember when my dad has come home with new tats he had to keep a wrap around it and couldn't wash it for a while. i don't believe you totally screwed it up, but perhaps you should talk to the artist that did your tattoo?
