Did you fact check what Mitt said about never having heard of a tax deduction for moving businesses off shore?

He is a smart business man if nothing else. But he missed this one or he lied again. The June 2012, Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation letter states, deductions are allowed for expenses paid or incurred by taxpayers in carrying out any trade or business which includes the relocation of business units.

Yes a business can deduct moving cost but that is not the same as a tax deduction for moving a company overseas i e the build/rent a building over seas they can not deduct that cost they can not deduct the cost of moving equiptment once it is outside the U S

Lets say it costs them $100,000 to move O K and lets say they are paying the highest rate 32 % they can deduct $32,000 and don't have to taxs on that amount it stilll cost them $100,000 to move

a deduction is just that you don't pay tax on $32.000 which would be a a $10,240 savings in tax's

Romney said he was unaware of any provision that gives companies a tax deduction for moving

operations overseas. But Obama is right; there is such a provision that allows companies to

    deduct such expenses

Mitt was lying through his teeth, like he did in most of the debate. Whenever they were discussing a move when he ran Bain, his accountants and tax lawyers were telling him of the deductions he could take by moving the production facilities overseas.

I guess you dont understand the difference between moving down the street vs. opening a new location in another country.

So you are saying that he has to know all tax laws? Interesting thought. Do you know all the tax laws involving your personal affairs? I'll bet you don't and his are far more complicated than yours.

The law you cite is not specific to offshoring. It is specific to moving a business, which is far more common than moving offshore.

any business that wants to move overseas for cheap labor should not get tax breaks for leaving people unemployed in our country. it will continue to happen as long as people worry more about their ball team than their country.
