Can passing out cause long term damage of any form.?

A few friends of mine were being stupid. One would lock his knees then after a while someone would give him a bear hug, resulting in him passing out. They got in trouble, and rightfully so but I was wondering if this causes any long term damage, like to the brain or something like that. And If so, if they were to only have done it once would it be enough to actually hurt them.

Update:

Dave C - Yea, they ain't that bright. Lol

Passing out on purpose is really a stupid thing; even once can cause brain damage. If done repeatedly, you can end up with severe brain damage, even if you feel fine right before fainting. When brain cells are deprived of oxygen, they die. Make sure your friends know how dumb this is and how real the effects are.

There will be permanent brain damage but to what degree depends on the length of time the brain is deprived of oxygen. It kind of sounds like there may already a be able lack of brain activity.

the only thing i can think of is memory loss, maybe even develop a learning disbillity. Idk

Ive passed out quite a few times but it never caused any damage to me. SO i guess it might depend on why and how you passed out...
